Go to the doctor before it becomes seriously infected. You could end up in the hospital having pieces of your toe cut out if it gets really bad.

My daughter had an ingrown toenail and the doctor told us to put a small wad of cotton under each corner of the nail. It lifts up the nail, as it grows, so that it won't dig in. If that doesn't seem to work, and it's already infected, you'll have to go to the doctor to have it cut away. They give you a local anesthetic, which makes your toe go numb, then cut part of the nail all the way into the nail bed, shortening the sides of the nail so that they no longer dig in. If you're a diabetic, it could make for a bigger problem, so talk to your doctor about your options. <*)))><

I agree with the others about seeing the doctor (the podiatrist, that is). They'll cut the edge of your toenail out that's ingrown and put something on it so that it won't grow back.

You'll be a much happier camper the minute its done... ingrown toenails suck.

I have been dealing with ingrown toenails with my son this summer. Here's the advise we were given.

You can try soaking it in dreft several times a day for 30 min. and also pouring peroxide on it several times a day.

If it doesn't clear up in two weeks you should go to the doctor. We did have to go to the doctor. First they gave us some antibiotics. It cleared up one toe but not the other.

We had to go in and have part of the toe nail removed. My son said after it was done and the feeling came back in his toe it felt 200% better.

That was the end of June. A couple of days ago I noticed one of his toes is looking irritated and infected again!

Good Luck!

For now, cut a "V" in the toe nail, so it gives the nail some room to grow. Call a doctor if it is past the "can't stand the pain" stage.

I would try a little hydrogen peroxide to get the infection to subside. You need to cut your toenails straight accross so this will not happen again. If the infection will not subside, see your doctor.

You need to go see a doctor before it becomes seriously infected,if it isn't allready.

that's not really that serious. see a foot doctor. sometimes they need to be removed by surgical means...well, kind of. they don't need to put you under or anything. they have to numb it though.
