They can be your best friend, IF you get the right one. Forget about the little lap dogs or the ones that go in your purse that all the weird bimbo models and actresses have. The best dogs for fun and companionship are Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers because they can go in the water ( lakes, rivers, your swimming pool ) and they can play frisbee, fetch or just hang out with you and your friends. Remember that to be a good dog, you MUST MUST MUST train the dog, preferably by a professional dog trainer. This is absolutely required so your dog does not become a pest to you, your family and friends. It MUST learn how to come to you when it is called by name, sit ( for longs periods of time ), stay ( for long periods of time) and other discipline. You should research the dog you want before making a decision. Dogs have very different personalities and some are vicious ( Dobermans and some German Shepherds ), they are dangerous ( do not ever get a Pit Bull ). Remember, dogs are like little children. They are only as loyal and fun if you spend lots of time with them and train them, train them, train them, and when you are done training them, train them some more.I strongly recommend agains the lap dogs or the yap dogs. They don't do anything but bark all the time and poop.

ok lets not sugar coat having a dog... They are alot of work and a huge responsibilty.. YOu have puppy shots,, yearly shots, heartworm preventive and test every year, city registration, you halve to walk them everyday and make sure they have ruld boundries and limitations, You have doggie obidiance classes if you have never had a dog, so that you can learn how to train your doggie, house breaking and the accidents that go with it not to mentions the occasional accident after they are house trained.
if you get a working dog,I.E. german shepherd, austrailian shepherd, blue healers, those kind of dogs really need a job even if it is to carrie your water on your walks they need to be needed.... there are so many things to think about.... but in the end it is all worth it... they are wonderful aniamals and loyal to the packleader and pack.....you can play ball together, go swimming, laze around on the sofa and watch aniamal planet..... and the bond that grows as you train and teach your dog what is acceptiable is unbreakable..... A fun thing you can do is hide treats all over in a room,then bring in your dog and he will smell them and start looking its fun to look at them crawl around the room looking for the treats.Also you can teach them to lay down,the you go hide then call them and they try to find you,you can also play fetch with them,they also make good guards for you and your house.


Also at first your dog may not want to play with you so let it get used to you,something that helps is to talk to it softly and gently,slowly come close to your dog with each word,or you can put out your hand and let it sniff it,then start petting it softly and speak to it.It will get used to you in about maybe 4 days.

Dogs are awesome!! I definitely prefer them to any other pet. :) As long as you have the time to spend with them, they are the best animal companions. what other animal do you know of that greets you at the door with a lick, will play fetch with you, swim with you, and guard your home and family? Get a Dog!!
I should rephrase that... adopt a dog.

Just look at this face. Don't I look like fun. Of course I am bigger now, but me and my master are best buddies. I never judge her or bite her. I am always so happy to see her and love being with her. My favorite thing is going for walks. Oh, those great smells everywhere!!!!!

Yes they are a joy but you need to know they are work to. Be sure you are able to have time for all their needs and choose one that suits you and your environment best..Tagging tail and wet nose kisses to you.

dogs are a lot of fun to have. they are a lot of work, though, but definitely the good times outweigh the bad by a long shot!

They're really fun to have around as long as you are able to take care of them. They are pretty expensive though, something around 2 grand a year with vet bills (shots are expensive), food and other misc. items.
