I don't know much about musical instruments because personally i am a choir person, but my mother has been a musician and an ASTOUNDING flute player since sixth grade and her experience was that the saxiphone is kind of the opposite for the fingering than the flute. She had a hard time switching and she had a type that was the easiest ever made (of course, they don't those anymore.... don't remember what it was called, classical, or something...) but i have tried the sax and i know that it is fun to play and is very cool if your into jazz. but other than that, i'd imagine the trumpet would be easier. Of course, i heard that it's hard on the lips, transitioning, and i've never gone near one.

Good Luck!

Embouchure will be more similar if you switch to trumpet, since you don't put either a flute mouthpiece or a trumpet mouthpiece INTO your mouth. Tightening and loosening the facial muscles to effect your sound is already familiar to you.

Fingering will be more similar if you switch to Saxophone. Both have systems of open and spring loaded keys, that close the sound holes via pads. The trumpet has three valves, not the whole series of keys. You are already used to having special keys for trills, and the like, a trumpet doesn't have these.

Saxophone fingerings are very similar to flute fingerings. I have a few friends who play both, and they've never had problems switching back and forth. I've played both the instruments, so I'd recommend saxophone. It's easier to pick up.

Saxophone is easier to play if you play the flute already. Trumpet requires a bit more hard work on the lips.

Sax is the easier switch as the fingerings are almost identical to flute and you don't have to develop the whole brass embouchure thing. You might, however, want to take into account where you can make the most impact in the band. Where do they need you?

Oh I played the flute starting in 5th grade and I loved it! I played it all the way through high school and I was in the marching band! I think saxophone would be the easiest for you the finger positions are very close to the flute! good luck!

i playde trumpet for five years, i wouldnt recommend it if you have braces or if you get a lot of sores in your mouth easily, trumpets the easiest instrument after the clairanet..... trumpets also very simple since there is only three keys on it it isnt hard to remember the notes at all, at least i didnt think so. i personally could never play the sax, i tried out for it and couldnt get a sound out of it...... i would recommend trumpet though... i always thought it was fun and simple.. :D

The flute is part of the woodwind instruments, as well as the piccolo, though neither have reeds.

It would seem to me the transition to the sax would be easier to pick up on quickly.

You don't want to look at which is easier, you want to look at which one is harder - for the sole purpose that you already play an instrument. I'd go with the Sax. It's cooler anyway.

I would go with the saxaphone. Because there are a lot of people playing trumpets and I like the way the saxaphone sounds.
