I play baseball, and I've prayed for my team to win. It doesn't always happen. I believe in God, and no matter how important athletics may seem to us, they're insignificant in the eyes of God. Just because I pray for my team to win, and we do win, doesn't mean God answered my prayers, it just means my team played better than the other team. God doesn't have to answer all of our prayers, although he hears them all. You mentioned an unresolved sin blocking the effectiveness of his prayers. Maybe it isn't necessarily blocking his prayer's effectiveness, but subconciously affecting his performance on the field or court. So to answer your question (assuming God answers prayers attempting to influence the outcome of a game), God only answers the prayer of one team because only one team can win.

Because people are not God's puppets, and he doesn't pull our strings to make us do anything. Praying for something as trivial as winning a game may not be a high priority, but I don't deign to know God's will. I don't believe that sins block prayer, but if the only thing you ever pray for is for your own good, rather than thanking God and praising him and praying for the good of others, I wouldn't blame him for not answering prayers. He's not a magician that pulls favors out of his hat everytime you ask for something. God blesses those who are a blessing to others. God answers all prayers - sometimes the answer is No. God knows best.

People pray for different things everyday including non muslims of course. what happens is what is destined to happen with or without prayer, everybody gets what they deserve in the end and in a sports game as in anything else it all depends on the effort put into it

God works in mysterous ways and answers to unselfish prayers. He would pry judge by which team He felt was strongest in that sport and is most deserving.

one does't always get what he asks for. regarding when two muslim ask for samething, there are three things.
1) Some time Allah gives one what has asks for
2). Sometimes Allah saves him from an accident or any misfortune
3). Or Allah will saves his prayer for the day of judgement, and man will receives lots of gifts (Pradise) from Allah that day
