Before reinstalling drivers, I would check to see if you accidentally changed the playback speed (or Key) of your sound card. This can make ALL of your sounds appear to sound like "chipmunks". If you have a Realtek AC 97 integrated sound card (or if you're not sure), try this:
Open the Control Panel, select "Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices". Now look for an icon labeled "Sound Effects Manager" and select it. Make sure the "Sound Effect" tab is active in the window that appears. Then look at the box labeled "KEY". The number that appears in this box should be "+0". If it is not, simply click the "Reset" button, or use the arrow keys to make it read "+0". Then click the "OK" button, close the control panel, and try playing your music. Hope this helps!.

Go to the run dialog and run sndvol32.

Now, go to options>properties and look for the 3d option in the list that apears. Also make sure that the playback radio button is checked.

Check the 3d sound and click ok.

Now use the slider on the 3d sound eq to set the sound properly.
Also give me 10 points if that was your problem.

Reinstall the audio drivers.

Try a different set of speakers. You might have a loose wire in the speakers causing this.

specific, a lot. some years in the past, my mum and dad got here into my room and asked if I were sound asleep, or stayed up. I pronounced "i've got not seen something yet strains." 2 seconds later, i replaced into thinking "What the heck? that would not make any experience!"

You could try upgrading your sound card drivers off of either the maker of the sound card's website, or the website of your computer manufacturer, i.e. compaq.com

I strongly suggest that let vendor fix it or replace it. You are asking this question too early. Its worth spending 5 points only after your warranty gets void.
