I was thinking of using my Cast Iron Skillet on the charcoal BBQ - has anyone ever done this? Is there enough heat generated to get the skillet hot enough to cook on or am I going to be just warming the food up? If I had a gas BBQ with the side burner this would be a no brainier, but I prefer to cook with real wood charcoal and I don't want to get a propane burner if I don't have to.
Also, if you know of any websites out there that talk about this and/or have recipes, that would be great.

Yes, you can use your cast iron on a charcoal bbq. Lower the rack if you can. If you need the pan Extremely hot, you can cook directly on the coals (you could also use some hardwood in the bbq and cook directly on that with your skillet).

Using a c/a skillet is alright on a bbq. I use it to cook eggs while grilling my ham or chops. Just be careful as the handle gets really hot. Also remember to watch it closely, and to position the skillet to lesser heat in case the food starts to get too hot.

You can place your cast iron skillet directly on the coals if you'd like - this will probably be hotter than you can get it on your inside gas burner and great for blackening fish or chicken!
