At that level, ibuprofen can be a muscle relaxer or just for sever pain. The side effects can be what prolonged use can do to your liver or kidneys. If Doctor prescribe ibuprofen or Tylenol at level they usually require periodic blood tests to check if their is any reaction from you organs. Ask an advice Nurse of a Doctor if you are taking the stuff on your own.
It may be the right thing to do, I can not be a judge of that but get some good advice. You are doing the right thing asking.
Good Luck.

Important information

Ibuprofen can increase your risk of fatal heart attack or stroke, especially if you use it long term or take high doses, or if you have heart disease. Do not use this medicine just before or after heart bypass surgery (coronary artery bypass graft, or CABG).
Ibuprofen may also cause stomach or intestinal bleeding, which can be fatal. These conditions can occur without warning while you are using ibuprofen, especially in older adults.
Do not take more than your recommended dose. An ibuprofen overdose can damage your stomach or intestines. Use only the smallest amount of medication needed to get relief from your pain, swelling, or fever.

I took this amount every six hours for about a year due to severe dental infections I was trying to clear up by myself. Now I cannot take even the smallest dose because I will end up with blinding, migraines so bad that I have to be in a darkened room. I also have an ulcer. I have developed a severe sensitivity to Ibuprophfen. Do not take this dose for a prolonged basis.

IT DEPENDS ON HOW FREQUENTLY YOU TAKE IT. DOCTORS HAVE PRESCRIBED 800 MG FOR ARTHRITIS AND SEVERAL OTHER INFLAMMATORY TYPE PAIN. WHILE WORKING IN A DRUG AND ALCOHOL REHAB CENTER IBUPROFEN 800 MG THREE TIMES A DAY FOR SERIOUS SPRAINS STRAINS AND BROKEN BONES. IF YOU TAKE IT FOR MORE THAN 3 DAYS YOU YOU NEED TO SEE A PHYSICIAN DUE TO POSSIBLE STOMACH PROBLEMS
ALWAYS TAKE IT WITH FOOD AND OR MILK. NEVER TAKE IBUPROFEN IF YOU ARE TAKING A NON STEROIDAL ANTI INFLAMMATORY OR ANY MEDICATION THAT HAS A WARNING ON IT THAT SAYS NOT TO TAKE WITH ASPIRIN PRODUCTS

Maybe a stomache ache. That's a usual dose for a moderate to severe Pull/spasams etc. if what you are taking it for dosen't seem to abate in 3-4 days, stop and see a doctor. I'm a former baseball player and I took that quite often.

If that's all you take in a 24-hour span, an upset stomach is your worst risk.

Pain goes away.

I take it quite often for my back.
Since it is a perscribed medication I don't worry ,but try not to take it everyday.
Some days I take acetaminaphen(tylenol).
