unless its a real emergency, he should stick it out. don't let him be a wuss, anyone who knows won't let him live it down. besides, basic training is only 6 weeks.....piece of cake.
but hey, on second thought if he ever gets activated we don't want someone who's potentially gonna go awol cause he doesn't wanna be there so maybe he should weasel his way out now.

When I was in basic in the Air Force 30 years ago. I know that is not the Army, but it might of been done there too. We had a retired Air Force Sgt. tell his son how to do it and it seem to work. He would pretty much do what he was told, but never delivered the results they expected. If he was told to run around the track with the rest of us, he would walk around the track. If he was told to go to bed, He would stay up all night. The list goes on. He was finally let out due to he coulden't adjust to military life. I even have fellow airmen do the same thing after they got out of basic and were kicked out.

Your friend will be only there 6 wks.....He's a big boy needs to be a MAN.....Coming home and ditching basic will ruin his career forever!!! Dude...suck it up and be a MAN and all that YOU can be by sticking it out. For Christ's sake....it's the National Guard.....it's not the full time ARMY... you only have to do the weekend warrier thing 1x a month once basic is over!!!
You friend doesn't need to come home!!!.....Just because he wants to doesn't mean he's going to get released.....He'd be a fool to sabatoge himself!!!

IF he really wants to get out, all he has to do is say so. It is called the TDP program. It is explained to EVERY recrut at reception station and again when they arrive at basic. If he hasnt done it, he is just telling you he wants to, In todays armed forces, you are not Forced to stay. If he is already through basic, thats a different story..

While you are in Basic training you can leave at any time. Its only once you have completed basic training and sign the contract you cant leave. My hubby is in the army and I have been told this. I hope this helps you and your friend. He needs to go and speak to his training officer and explain why he wants to leave and they should grant it to him.
