Nail stores are generally owned by Vietnamese, and their english standard is usually a little lower. So it's PERFECTLY normal for them to communicate to each other using their native language, i don't think anything is wrong with it. It doesn't necessarily means they are talking bad behind (or in this case, in front of you :)) But i do think that if possible, it's better to not speak a different language, it's a little rude sometimes, but i think it really depends. If they can speak english but chose to speak something else in front of you, that's rude. But if they can't speak well, then it's ok for them to speak something else which they are fluent in.

I'm not irritated by it anymore but I still think it is very rude so everytime I'm there with a friend I make a point of talking in a language other than English. Where I come from it is considered common courtesy not to speak a language others present in the room might not understand but different cultures, different customs.

There's nothing wrong with that. It's just like you speaking in your own language.

Shame on them. But then shame on me too, since I speak Spanish with anyone and everyone who will speak it with me. My native language is English, so then it should be double-shame on me. All of us who speak other languages are so inconsiderate of you all of you who are handicapped with just one. There really ought to be a law!
