If each electronic voting machine gave a reciept with a tallying total to date of the votes cast, then voters could be sure they were not cheated at the ballot box. My congressman tells me they don't have the money for the computer printers. They have money for everything else but the most basic proof that we are still free.

printers are not the issue. providing a receipt would result in loss of the secret ballot and could open up a whole new can of worms. for example, say you work for the local sheriff, he is up for re-election, he threatens his staff that if they don't vote for him they will loose their jobs and then because a receipt is provided he wants you to show him how you voted and that's just the tip of the ice-burg! However, most states require voting systems with a verifiable paper audit trail, this safe guard is sufficient.

I was actually looking for a place where we can find all these things with a profile and photo brouse option. Finally I got this site, this place is a very nice community where we can share every thing online. And also about the leader board, I must tell it is great. The thought of the leader board is unique, as not to many people has thought about this thing. And the method of getting the leader is very different and one must check out this site once. The cyber culture is growing, and it is about time that we find our club and that to a very different club, which is not a part of any big website house like the yahoo and google. This site am talking about has every thing that a cyber surfer ever wants. A tallying total of the votes cast for that day would go against the concept of anonymous ballot and therefore make voting less fair.
Let's say you go to vote at 12 noon and get your reciept. You should me your reciept at 6pm just before I go to vote. I see that your reciept says candidate x has 6,000 votes and candidate y has 75 votes. Why should I bother voting at all?
Even a simple reciept with only your vote cast would could lead to all sorts of fraud.

All electronic voting machines in Nevada have paper receipts, except that you don't get one. You can view yours once you press the "cast vote" button, but you don't get a copy.

If they did that then Geroge would have not been able to cheat twice and get into office. Also, then our country and world would not be in such a sh!tty state. I would have to say that is why they will not give us a recipt. Because you know that with as much technology they can do that. They just don't want to. Also, it would be confidential usless the person with the recpit showed people.

Because that would allow proof of how you voted, which defeats the goals of many who want the electronic voting machines in place.
