Due to high rpms, even a small bird can do great damage to engines. I have seen turbine engines that have ingested birds and beginning at the rotor blades chunks of bone and pieces of the metal that break off cause extensive damage throughout the engine.

A bird hitting an airplane can shatter a windshield and kill the pilot, or can damage an engine enough that it can not operate. Imagine a large bird like a goose, maybe 10lbs, hitting an airplane at 550mph. That's literally thousands of pounds of force and can do a lot of damage.

It has happened to me when i was traveling in a plane and its scary experience.
The engine suddenly stops. It can aslo catch fire. The speed of the plane drops suddently. U need an experienced pilot or else.....

well id imagine the speed has alot to do with it, bird cud easily smash in windscreen or go up the wing and interfere with how the plane is flying, is it not common sense?
