firstly, it isn't shorthand. If you want to learn that, they a Pitman course. Secondly, more often than not, it's because the person concerned doesn't know how to spell anyway. So, it's not shorthand but bad spelling, grammar and syntax.

The reason for the shorthand is due to the 9 key keyboard you have on a mobile phone. when you have a full keyboard, you should use it. It is very irritating to read messages wrtn lk dis.
The shorthand is also intended so you do not go over the 160 charachter limit set by most mobile networks

Because shorthand is only appropriate for taking notes e.g in lessons. Its not suitable for talking to someone in a conversation

It's not just guys... I hate it too... and the reason is, it makes the user of shorthand slang look illiterate and uneducated... and it puts off further conversation! Mature men prefer intellect to child speak!

because some people dont know how to read it if it aint all written out right in front of their faces lol some people are just to damned ignorant to try i dont see nothing wrong with the way that u write and i understand it just fine lol.

its difficult to understand, obviously written by kids, and us older people find it aggravating, not only that, its hard to take it seriously. the odd shortcut is fine, like 'u' for you..
but wen dem peeps talk lik dis wiv slang an dont spell proply

because they dont know how to read it and they want to keep practising the full and formal form- wow i wrote all that in an almost complete sentence without short hand

i don't know i also use it too because its so much quicker but people get mardy about it and accuse me of spellings
