I'm a single mom new to a small town. Bars usually yield drunks or cheaters. The internet has turned up losers & psychos. So where else is there?

Well, as a person who has lived in Smalltown, USA before and hated it, I can safely say that your options are kinda limited. Most small towns have very little going for it in entertainment value. Everything closes up by 6pm. The only thing open after that time is a convienient store, the local bowling alley, or the local watering hole. The only person in the town making any money is the guy who owns the watering hole.
If you want to meet quality guys, church isn't a bad place to start. Usually most people who are into church are people with some quality and of good moral character. Better yet, befriend someone who is a local of the town. They would be able to tell you all the good hotspots and where the social scenes are located.

Anyplace in daylight would do. Since you are in a small town you may need to travel a bit to the nearest city. Try a coffee house, a pub-restaurant. Try going out with a friend and if you find someone you like, just smile. No need to be shy. Remember: if a girl smiles and flirts, its apreciated, if a guy does it, it's wrong... which makes me wonder... why?

Go to a community college and take a fun class like photography or volleyball or softball.
Another great way is to join a coed softball or soccer team. You'll meet new people who have friends, etc.

Maybe attending school events with your child might turn up a single father with a good heart.
