I'm 47 and I had depression for ages> At the beginning I did not want to deal with the idea but with huge effort I went to a specialist and with some medications(to regulate the mood and the temper) and some workout in analysys I learnt to deal with it.
It'll come back because depression has physical and emotional roots but the professional help and the trust in it, makes you a person aware of the problem. My depression is un umbrella I have open or close but I live my life: if I need medication I ask for them (when my rage is on top) and if I need to sort out my problems I go counselling: learn to fight it!!!

That's a pretty tough one, since your depression symptoms will most likely contribute to you perceiving aggression in others when none exists.

Have you seen a mental health professional or sought treatment of any sort? Since you realize you've got a condition (whether or not you've been diagnosed) it might help to either get some medicinal assistance or some therapy.

A counselor or therapist might be able to give you some coping skills to recognize when you're starting to feel angry or agitated and how to politely extract yourself from a situation where you feel yourself getting hostile.
I think the key would be to be able to identify when you're starting to FEEL angry, hostile, offended, agitated, or aggressive. These are all triggers for fights, and if you can recognize what's happening, you might be able to better avoid putting yourself into or creating a situation that becomes volatile or violent.

Please consider counseling - the trained professionals can certainly help you more than we can. Good luck!

Build skills by trying to do things you pay other people to do for you. Self sufficiency is an esteeming persuit that can save you money and make you feel better about yourself. Work on you car or fix your house. Try growing your own food. All of these things will help you ground in the things that really matter. In addition it is a way to take action towards taking care of yourself, which will help you be removed from drama with other people.

My wife goes through the same thing. Meds can help some. I used to be on Prozac and it helped for my deppression. But also you should do everything you can to not lose your temper. Stop and count backwards from 10 to 1. Leave the room. Pray to Heavenly Father for compassion and guidance. Remember all your own faults and focus your energy in fixing them instead of lashing out towards others. etc....

I don't think the problem is how to avoid fights. It sounds more like the depression is not being controlled very well. I would suggest re-evaluating your current treatment and see if there's some way to improve it. If you can do that, you probably won't have to worry so much about avoiding fights.

You should seek professional help & maybe medication. I resisted the thought of meds, but started seeing someone after a taumatic event in my life in addition to menopause. Therapy & meds made me the normal person I was before.

I suggest you talk to a Psychiatrist. The Psychiatrist might suggest you join Group Therapy with others who have the same problem...

Asking that question on line is not a wise thing to do...
Best of luck.
