In the comics, Sandy is mutt (mixed breed, whatever). In the 1982 movie, Sandy was played by multiple dogs, all purebred otterhounds. The lead was Bingo.

Sandy was a mixed breed, probably a terrier mix. The closest purebreed that I can think of would be a Soft Coated Wheaten.

Sandy was played by an pure bread Otterhound. if you find a good picture of Sandy and then look at a picture of an Otterhound you will see a good resemblance. that's what i did. you can also go to this website to see for your self. make sure you do question #8.
