She has finally found someone who treats her good and she really likes him. He is kind of pudgy and not the kind of guy that she usually dates. Her friend tell her to dump him because she is too pretty for him, I tell her they are just jealous because their guys are like the type she used to date "Users and abusers". What can I say to make her see It's not about looks it's about how much he cares for and loves you? She doesn't want to break up and she doesn't want to lose her friends I am kind of old (in my 30's) so she thinks I am old fashioned. Any one out there who has been there have any words of wisdom I can tell her? She is 20.

hmmm sounds like ur neice is dating me 2 years ago lol, the choice is goona be hers no matter what and honestly she probably will dump this guy and then she'll regret it... i used to be like the guy shes dating kinda pudgy and not the norm but i always treated anyone i dated like a princess, and now after i started workin out they all call me everyday askin for me back say i was the best thing they ever had and honestly it feels good, so yes i understand u love ur neice but shes gonna make a decision and in 2 years either she'll be happy or regret it and finally realize how great she had it.

I am 21, so maybe my perspective is a little 'fresher'. A good guy is hard enough to find, so why break up with him because your friends tell you to? Besides, what kind of friend asks someone to break up with a guy she truly likes because of his looks? Her friends seem pretty superficial.
She needs to figure out what qualities are important to her and how she feels about him. Her friends' opinions, your opinion nor mine matter. What matters is how she feels. If she feels happy when she is around him, the weight shouldn't matter. That is something he could change.
But if she dumps him because her friends tell her to, she will resent them and hate herself. She will also always wonder what if.

In my opinion , friemds are nothing more than a liability. This is why i have very littleof them. Her friemds are obviously jealous and r not real friends bcuz if they were they would encourage her 2 stay with this nice guy.tell her that she is a grown woman and must learn how to make decisions for herself rather than letting her friends live her life 4 her.

I find it silly that a 20 year old calls someone in their thirties old fashioned.
But to the question at hand, your niece is in college now, and college is in general very hard on relationships. Everyone is looking for better things, trying new stuff, and it will be hard for her to stick to someone, especially if her friends don't approve of him. tell her to decide for herself if she is sufficiently happy with her boyfriend to be willing to endure the pressure and the jokes. She won't lose her friends if she doesn't break up with him, but they won't let her get away with it unscathed.

Ah the price of happiness !

Im 25 and my friends can be like that. My guy isnt Brad Pitt but he is incredible. Tell her not to buckle to them. If they are true friends then they would be happy for her. If he makes her happy then thats all that matters. They dont have to find him attractive, they arent dating him! Tell her to find some friends that have grown up!

Ask her to ask her friends about what they would do if she wasn't pretty how would they treat her... you need to tell her that her friends are shallow and if they choose people by looks then thats how they will treat her as long as she is pretty and do what they do, they will be here friend.... she would be much happier with the gut and have no friends than to have crappy friends who are shallow and no boyfriend. she will see that one way or another.

If the two love each other, then by all means, it's never about the looks unless it's just lust. And if her friends really dont respect her enough to be glad she's happy, then they're not really friends at all.
