it's been in there opened for about a month-- is it still good to use?

I've done this, too, and it works (but, smell it first and make sure it doesn't stink, otherwise you might taste that in your cookies).

You can use it, but the point of putting baking soda in the fridge is to extract any smells. So it isn't as good as it should be. Baking soda should be kept in the pantry, not the fridge. In the fridge, it serves as a cleaner, though I have never understood the logic behind that. Why don't people just try cleaning their fridge instead of muting the smell? But that is different subject entirely.

I wouldn't. Baking soda absorbs odors so it would probably add a strange taste to your recipes. Plus the cold would affect how it works in the recipes.

The reason you set it in the fridge is to absorb all the odors in there. If you used it to cook with afterwards, it's going to taste like all the smells and odors it's absorbed. Eww.

Nope. Keep one separate. The one in the frig has been absorbing odors for you.

In a pinch I have done this, but it will alter the taste of whatever you put it in a little.

I wouldn't, it's purpose is to absorb odors, and this can translate into your food.
