Look up the official website of the state you live in and find the faq for businesses. That will give you a start.

Most of the housecleaners I've had do NOT have insurance. None of them need to be bonded.

If you want insurance, call a local, independent agent near you. It will probably run between $500 and $750 a year, if you're the only person cleaning.

Bonding - I just answered this for someone else today - it probably doesn't mean what you think it means. If you're looking for crime/theft coverage, you can add it to your business policy, but it ONLY covers employees, NOT you, if you steal. So if you don't have employees, it's pretty useless.

One of the kinds of insurance you absolutely must have is health insurance. With all that reaching, stretching, and lifting that can be related to doing a good cleaning job, you probably have a somewhat heightened risk of injury. Of course, you also have the risk of illness. Many self-employed people like you find that short-term health insurance is the best bet. Although it is robust coverage, it is really much less expensive than regular insurance. It can start for you as early as tomorrow. For more information and a no-obligation quote from the industry leader, go to http://www.wavehelp.com/small-business-health-insurance.htm
