If you are on a date and your guy takes you out to dinner do you sit next to him or across from him. why? Does it make a difference if it is a casual meal vs a formal one?

I think If it's a first date - across the table from one another - it gives you some space. If it's a later date and your sitting in a booth - the side by side is more intimate. If it's a super nice dinner - I would rather sit across. More proper.

But I am pretty easy going so I would prbably just go with the flow.

You sit across from him the first few months. Then you sit next to him after a year. And then you sit at a completely different table once you're married.

Usually, you sit across from one another. It allows for personal space and you both can look directly at one another. Sitting side by side is more intimate. Having worked in both formal and casual restaurants, its less likely to see "same siders" (sitting next to one another) at a formal restaurant. Also, I've noticed that those that do sit side by side tend to be 25 and under age-wise.

I'm not usually into sitting next to someone while eating. Sitting across is the way I like it. Its easier to talk and everybody has enough elbow room. Once in a while sitting next to each other is ok, when you feeling all lovey dovey, touchy feely.

it honestly makes no difference on the type of meal. me personally i like to sit across the table, i'm not one to be all touchy touchy, so sitting across the table at least shows that i'm enjoying my time with that person because of better eye contact during dinner conversation.

Across when you are getting to know him. You want to see the person you're talking to.
When I've dated the guy for a long time, sometimes I just want to be close, so then I'd sit next to him.

Depends on the guy...
First couple of dates and nothing established... Across from him.
But if we have been dating for awhile or we are a couple. I may sit next to him sometimes or across from him.

casual usually means that you would sit next to him whereas formal means across from him but hardly anybody follows these rules now i would let her sit where ever she feels most comfortable

if you sit next to him its more difficult to talk to him, when you sit on the other side of the table, you can look him in the eyes and and its easier for conversations :)
