He is eating everything I eat and when he eats he eats a full meal. He seems to be bored of his bottle but is it too soon to wean him off if it. And how do I wean him when it is time?

yes, give him a sippie cup, some lids have straws...my son liked those, just be sure you keep giving him whole milk, he needs that, but if he will drink from a cup go for it and good luck

I believe that your the mother, and you can make that choice. I started weaning Mine early as well. The interest isn't there, why have it?. Just because some books say..oh no wait longer?. No, you know your own child and what he is capable of. This comes from someone that started their baby at 6 wks old on light cereal. Slowly working up the thickness. Why?, because he wasn't being satisfied. Once I started with the cereal he began sleeping better, resting better, and longer. He seemed happier.

Point being, If you feel that he is old enough to start getting him used to the cup, then so be it. I would still for the first few weeks, take bottles with Me when going out, until he has fully adjusted but at home, I would start him off with one of those, non spill cups. Hell catch on.

All babies learn at a different rate. Remember the things you read in a book is usually made for the majority. You may have a child that learns quicker than others.

Definitely not too soon to wean. Most doctors want them off the bottle before age 1. Just make sure he is getting plenty of fluids through a sippy cup or a cup with a straw.

Just give him the bottle 2x a day in the morning and at night then slowly take the morning one away and then the night one.

yes you can start right now.

leave a sippy cup around so he won't go to a bottle anyway. as for avoiding formula instead of a real meal; make sure that he is getting lots of veggies/fruits.

I breastfed but stopped when he was 10 1/2 month old. ( I was out of town and switched him to whole milk and adult diet) he didn't like veggies so I still fed him babyfood veggies and the doctor didn't have a problem with it.

Although he and other doctors will continue to suggest that they are on formula/breastmilk until 1 year because that is what the studies show is best for babies. Does that mean you are harming your baby? I don't think so. There aren't clinical trials to evaluate weaning at 10 months instead of 12.

Yes, I think if he seems bored, now is the perfect time. Just start giving him his formula or whatever you feed him in the bottle in a sippie cup during awake feedings and give him the bottle for laying down with water. He will be totally turned off by it being so plain, he will practically wean himself. If you are ready to stop formula, if that was part of the weaning you are referring to as well, give him Pediasure or something alike to supplement him alittle.

My last son, who is now almost 3 yrs old...weaned himself off of formula at 7 months old...he wouldn't drink it...we also have a 5 yr old who at that time was 3 at the time...drinking out of a sippy...one day, at 9 months the baby threw the bottle to the floor and started using a sippy cup...You'll kinda know when it's time..you can try when they are able to hold a bottle themselves...you'd be amazed how quickly they teach themselves...GOOD LUCK

My daughter gave up her bottle on her own at 8 months. She was getting all the milk she needed from a sippy cup so there was no issue with that. Try a sippy cup with him. The only issue you should worry about, is getting enough milk and vitamins to him on a daily basis. So, if he is bored with it.. there is no reason you can't wean him. If he cries for a bottle, try the sippy cup first. If he truly needs the bottle you will know.

Yes, you can wean your son off the bottle. Whenever you guys eat offer him a cup instead. Start off with spillproof kind so he doesn't make a mess. He will learn to use it and slowly you can stop giving him his bottle. But the same rules apply to a cup as they apply to a bottle. Don't lay him down with it and try not to give him sugary drinks because its bad for his brand new teeth. I hope this helps!!

Go for it! If he seems ready do it now. He doesn't need the bottle and if he continues to use it I've heard you may miss the window of opportunity for him to give it up on his own time naturally. Start him on a sippy cup. Good luck!

This is the same age my son was when he gave up his bottle. I didn't have to wean him, he would throw his bottle away when we gave it to him, just toss it on the floor. I stopped giving him one and he never missed it. Just make sure he gets enough milk, juices and water.

If he is bored with it then give him a sippy cup.

Now would be the best time to get him use to that. He still needs his formula though, as this is very important to him in the first year.

Hope all works out well for you.
