given the superb artistic skills of the Greeks and Romans that Jesus lived amongst, why no sculptures of him

you would think that somebody would have drawn a picture or carved a bust. We know what Plato ,Socrates et al look like why not Jesus ?

For the same reason that there are no artifacts from his days as a carpenter... no articles of clothing... none of Jesus' writings. Jesus is a fictional character. The idea to portray him as an actual historical figure did not emerge until well into the 2nd century.

You know... if you add up all the time where Jesus is accounted for in the Gospels (not counting the supposed 40 days in the wilderness), it works out to just about 3 weeks. Doesn't that strike anyone else as being a little bit ODD?

Not to be facetious, but Jesus didn't travel in the same circles as Plato or Socrates, and having a professional painting or bust done of yourself was pretty damn expensive. Also, I don't believe the Socrates representations are done from life. I think they were done after death when his true value was realized.

Jesus in his day was seen as nothing but a truble maker by the authorities and he moved about hardly the type to stand for a portrate it was only after his death and reserections his life took on more significance to those left behind

The Romans revered their philosophers but were ultimately responsible for the murder of The Saviour. Where are the Statues of Hitler or Saddam Hussien?

Jesus live amongst the Jews in Judea.
And there are pictures of him, and people did write of him.

Because he is a mythological figure. No one named Jesus the Christ(the annointed) ever lived.

Because very few people noticed or were even aware of Jesus until several decades after his death. The gospels weren't even written until long after he died.
