I'm a junior in college majoring in elementary education. my dad is a surgeon and my mom is a pediatrician. Both of them had a great education. So all my life my parents engrained the importance of education into my head. Even my two older brothers went on to become a surgeon. All my life I knew i would graduate from college. But then there are people that thinks college is worthless. Why? Yea, it does suck studying a lot but in the long run it is very worthwhile.

If you have a career you want to study for - as your family tends to - college is absolutely important. But many people go straight out of high school for no other reason than "because that's what you do." They spend a lot of money on classes they're not really interested in, a lot of time partying when they should be thinking about their education, and in the end wind up with a liberal arts degree they can't do anything with.

College is not the answer for everyone.

Because of that very reason. Your parents ingrained that into you which means they have done there chore of being a parent. A lot parents don't do that now a days or some people are just plain lazy. Until they see the importance in life and how it will affect their future then they might just do something about.
See, I can speak my behalf..............My dad is very successful Real Estate Broker in San Francisco, he pushed me and nagged but I refuse to go to School. So, what did the brilliant man do? Well, told me if you want to live here, your ganna work and pay bills just as if you lived on your own. And you know what? The best thing he could have done to me because it was a reality check for me. I was stupid teenager that thought I knew it all and no high school diploma, working my little tail for peanuts. But it showed me responsibilities and also showed me that even if I did get a diploma, I had ways to go. So, I hated my dad for little bit but now I am really thankful for the old smart man. He knew all along how to do deal with his rebellious little girl. And now I proud to work in a really nice office, in great property management position and treated with lots of respect because of skills and yes because of my college degree.

"even my two older brothers went on to become [a] surgeon" WOW!! a siamese twin surgeon, this I gotta see!! Seriously, though college isn't for everyone. Some people do extraordinarily well without the benefit of higher education. I'm working on my Doctorate (i'm a brokeass), my sister owns a buisness that brought in 8 million last year (no college)

Listen to this it might help: I have a friend and both of his parents went to college and got bachelors degrees in engineering, but his father chose to be a school bus driver and makes barely anything and his mother chose to do nothing and decided to just keep having children every year to be able to stay home. They live in a ran down house for free and are too lazy to even mow the yard. My friend decided not to go to college because of this and he saw how lazy his parents were and knew that it was just if you have ambition or not, he is only 20 years old and is working full time and is making more money than his parents. MY opinion he should go to school because it looks like he already has more ambition than his parents, but he is afraid to because his brother and sister both went to school, got lazy, and dont do anything now. Some people are just to lazy to do anything with their life or dont want to work hard at school so they don't try and say its just pointless.

The people who think that way are the people who for one reason or another didn't want to go to college so they say that to make it seem like its ok. Having an education is definitely better than not having one. Its just not the end all be all. You can still become very successful without the education but you need to be an entrepreneur.

For certain careers it is worthless.

I am a programmer and I never went to college. I make a lot more than all of my friends who have masters or PHDs. Fact is I would hire someone with 4 years of real world experience & no college way before I would hire someone just out of college.

For certain things like Education & Medicine college is a must.

some people think college is worthless because when you graduate from college, it's only the piece of paper that shows people that yeah you have good knowledge but it doesn't give you experience in the work force. In the work force people care more about experience than qualifications. If you have the piece of paper from college and have no experience applying for a job at a corporation versus someone who has no qualification from university but has way more experience than you, I say the corporation would hire someone with experience, rather than having a degree without experience.

As a promotion professor, i am going to allow you to recognize that it absolutely isn't promotion, because those scholars needing distinctly-paid jobs are turning out to be them as a lot as $60K in the present day, and none of them are going without jobs (those who insist on PR jobs contained in the leisure marketplace do not make a lot, yet that is their selection - there are diverse different jobs for which they could be eligible if the money mattered). i could wager that something contained in the IT container may be the worst in the present day, as at the same time as some scholars get reliable jobs, many look to have problem searching a job in any respect, given outsourcing. besides the undeniable fact that, the actuality remains that many employers are merely in search of anybody with a college degree, so that you'll get a good job with a substantial in something and do nicely. i recognize of persons with tiers in English, Classics, historic past, and Philosophy who've carried out ok. for sure, their jobs do not tournament their majors, yet they under no circumstances meant them to.

People who say that are those who didnt have the opportunity to go off to college. They hate to see people doing something that they wish they could have done so they try to make it seem worthless. Yes some people make a good living without college, but every body is different.

Some degrees are worthless yet are still promoted and encouraged just to support the college industry. Not all degrees get people decent educations or jobs. Thats why, I believe.
