I'm from Berkhire and we called them 'scrumps', but the tight bloke who ran our local chippy made us pay a penny for a bag! Funny thing was I ended up working for him when I got older and I used to pinch a bag to take home!

Ha ha, brilliant question...I TOTALLY remember scraps. They used to pile them up in the corner of the hot plate and then put them into a little bag for you. Beautiful.
I know at least two places that stil serve scraps.

Where I came from (Birmingham) we called 'em skratchin's.
Not the now more famous and more disgusting 'Pork Scratchings' (bits of deep fried pigs skin covered with mountains of salt).
Don't know that they are even offered anymore - certainly not where I am now (South Devon)
