who are using numbers as words, not caring about grammar or spelling, and not showing any pride in writing capabilities?
What the hell are our schools (skools?? o.O ) teaching our kids? Or are they teaching them anything at all? Have our schools become glorified, state paid day cares?

I read some of these questions on here and cringe. It is hard enough deciphering what their cryptic message is, let alone trying to provide an answer for them. I get so sidetracked correcting their written mess, I lose the meaning of their questions.

...why does yahoo keep cutting off my questions? ....

I should add that I have a ten year old son. I guess he is the exception to the rule. He will be a 5th grader, who reads at the 10th grade level, and understand math concepts at a 6th grade level. As parents, we strive to work with him nightly, and during the summer, on english comp. and math comp. I guess a lot has to do with parents as well.

Are the children really lazy? Or are they mirrors of their parents?

For at least some of them: IMing has taught them a new grammatical norm - it's like....electribonics. It's a way of seperating themselves from the herd of us 'old' folks - a way to be instantly recognized as being young, a way to rebel, and irritate. I think that at least Some of them actually could write correctly if they desired. As for the others... a better question might be "Where Are Their Parents?" Why are they on here asking strangers questions anyway? Why aren't their parents involved in their schools and school work? Why don't their parents insist they learn, get them some help, be involved?

yeah... skools dont teach anything... so, therefore, they should be shut down... that would be fun... if u havnt figured it out... i fall in this particular age group... i love it... all we want is freedom to be who we want... personally i don't see why you care, seeing as how when we actually enter the so called "real" world, it will change with us, or there will be a massive uprising, follower by teh sun bieng blown up and everyone freezing. Also, when you say ALL, it only applies to most kids & teens not caring. I can compose a complete sentence, but i like the dots (we havent been taught the correct term) and i am a sophomore. sad situation really. most of teh classes i have i could teach, because they keep us at the same level each year. I suggest you go to the schools if you have a problem with it, and tell them to get INTELIGENCE in the class rooms... not a complete moron, and no, this doesnt apply to all teachers, but most.

I think it is more that they are being lazy or just don't care. I have a 16 yr old and 12 yr old, and they don't spell that way. So, I don't think it's just an age thing. Of course, both my children like to read and that probably makes a difference. (It's pretty bad when my 12 yr old sees some of the questions on here and just laughs because of the spelling/grammar that is used.)

I'm not a fan of people writting like that either (wot did they do dat 4? >.<) Mostly it comes from IM's and text messaging. Who knows if these kids are learning much of anything, they seem to be keeping it long enough to pass the test but not using it outside of school. I also find the whole every other letter capatialized quite annoying also, what's the point of it really?

It is the result of text messaging and IM. No one knows how to compose a full sentence any longer. I actually read something not that long ago they wanted to allow children to turn in homework like this. Can you imagine what will happen when they get to the real world?

I'm thinking it started with text messaging and trying to make the text shorter. But, then again I think it has turned into a code so parents have no idea what the kids are talking about. Its quite mind blowing really.

The computer is responsible for many difficulties in spelling. In chat rooms everything is written in computer users shorthand. It makes it difficult for young minds to keep grammar and spelling
rules intact.
As a retired teacher, I am just glad to see them asking questions. A lot of young folk think they know it all.

kids 11-17... well, the best explanation is that a friend of mine calls that age group (she's a teacher) "glands with feet". They are just discovering themselves as an individual... their brain is far too busy with that to be concerned about manner, grammar, etc...

teachers are overburdened... with regulations, with bureaucracy...
