Because the theory of evolution is just that .. a theory... it was something somebody made up because they couldnt accept the fact that there is a power greater than ourselves... sounds like a man thing dont it?

If the theory of evolution is true then how come the process is not happening still today?
Biological evolution is happening today, but it is a very slow process. If you sat and looked at a clock for about a minute, you might think that the hour hand is not moving. But it is. Or, look at the sun, moon, or planet in the sky. They are traveling in their orbits at thousands of miles per hour (not to mention that earth’s surface is rotating at 1000 miles/hour at the equator), yet when you look at the sky for just a few minues, you don’t see any obvious motion. If you could point a time-laps camera at a mountain for about twenty million years, you would see major changes due to erosion and plate tectonics, but if you only run your camera for a few hundred years, you won’t see any obvious changes at all (unless you happened to choose Mt. St. Helens as your target!) Our perspective on evolution is similar to this. It simply happens too slow for any sort of obvious observation. We have to be clever and observe evolution in other ways, such as fossil records, radio-carbon dating, comparative biology, etc. There is absolutely no question that evolution happens. There is absolutely no scientific controversy over this, even though certain religious fundamentalists might want you to think that there is. There are serious questions about whether biological evolution can account for EVERY aspect of human life – the nature of consciousness is highly problematic for example, but there is no question that evolution does account for a great deal of the biological diversity we see today.

The theory of evolution is based on changes that occur for the most part over hundreds, thousands, or millions of years. Thus it is not something a person can observe much in their own lifetime.

Some changes, however, can be seen in the short term. The emergence of antibiotic resistant bacteria shows how organisms can adapt to certain environmental stresses to produce a much stronger organism. The bacteria that are too weak or do not have the correct adaptations will be wiped out leaving more space and resources for those bacteria with the proper adaptations. A very rough sketch of natural selection.

but it did get on my nerves. before mass world travel when land and water kept people apart the people that evolved into black and the people that evolved into white stayed that way for a very long time. what you are now seeing them both do is evolve into a brown race. because of world travel no one group of people will ever be isolated so that they can develop special features like dark skin to help ward off the heat or no facial hair to keep the face from freezing, so evolution is still at work. just a guess that if man makes it another 20000 years everyone will look pretty much the same. mans next chance at classical evolution will be when we move groups of people to diffrent planets very far apart so the people can change independependent of one another. if that really ever happens. and on top of that, what the *** do i know. u could study flies because i understand they do it fast. have a good day.

Go outside and look at the sun. Note its place in the sky. Come back 5 minutes later and look again. Did it look like it moved at all? Probably not. Now do this again, only wait 6 hours instead of 5 minutes...now you can see a noticeable change in the sun's position in the sky. Wait another 6 hours, and you'll see even more (unless it's dark, ha ha).

The point is, evolution is happening, but humans don't live long enough to see any huge noticeable changes.

First:
It is not a theory it is proven fact. It was originally called a theory because Dawin was offering a chance for other credible alternatives to a put their case, this did not happen so evolution is now accepted fact.
Secondly:
the process is happening still today

A more appropriate section to put this question in would be the science section.

How do you know it's not happening? Evolution takes more years than you will live. We evolve and adapt to new environments. Just wait until the earth is a little more screwed up, then you'll see some mutations.
You can't disprove evolution. You may argue it's initial stages (as most people do concerning humans), but animals and people adapt and evolve all the time in very minute ways.

Evolution is true for simply look at the fossil record. What is not clear is how it happened naturally.

The hypothesis that new genetic code with significantly new functions or significantly new species has not been demonstrated. If it had been, it would be one of the most important events in science, Nobel Prize, etc.

Basically, you asked the wrong question!

Yeah really! If I go to the zoo and see a monkey and then go back 100 years later will that monkey be a human? If it takes millions of years for things to turn into something else, then how can that happen if nothing can live for a million years? I don't know about you, but I've never met a 1 million year old person or a 1 million year old bird. In order for evolution to happen, a species has to survive long enough for the changes to happen and then it has to give birth in order for those changes to keep going on and on...

It IS happening today.Have you not notices that everyday, scientist are uncovering new species. Old species are being born differently? You must be confusing the terms, evolution is not a magical thing that happens from one day to the next...it is actually another word for ADAPTATION! Animals have to get adapted to the changing environments every day but it takes up to MILLIONS of years to be completed maybe a few thousand years. The thing is, we don't see adaptation because it is not a trick like a bunny hat as many Christians would have you believe.

Because the theory of evolution is based on many small changes over millions of years. When you put them together the changes are noticeable and the theory makes sense. Without putting the different changes side by side it is harder since most of the time the evolutionary changes are an extra fin, better eyes, opposable thumbs, etc...
