The Sunni believes it's ok if someone other than a cleric is their leader. They're also used to getting special treatment from their former leader and hate the fact that Iraq may be a democratic country where the Shiite is the majority.
The Shiite believes that only a descendant of Mohhamad can be their leader and therefore backed by Iran who hates Democracy. You can see where they wouldn't be able to get alone but at this point if they don't settle things and we leave, it will be either one big Iran or another brutal, Sunni controlled country.

It's not just in Iraq. It is basically ANYWHERE they are togther in large numbers like that. Heck first off Iraq was one of the WORST Ideas. Goes back to the end of WW1 and the British Empire. Anyway they took these three provinences that never got along and made them a country. No wonder that place has always been a mess. They simply don't agree on religion though. It's almost like asking why Ireland had fighting for so long between the Catholics and the Protestants. There is no easy answer, although part of it is teh engrain of hatred. Now in Iraq part of it is also that the minority was oppressing the majority for so long.

Poki Poki stated the right ingredient. It wasn't there till US invaded in there. The disputes between Muslims are the effect of evil intrigues of outsiders. now no longer in straightforward words Muslims, even Christians of different international places are determining the actuality as President Chavez realized. See in Iraq, a lot killing is going on, AFTER US went in there. nicely, no, wait, US tries to set peace there dont they?? Hmm. actual peace. Why US invaded Iraq? a probability existence of disastrous guns. what number guns found there later? Nada! Hmm! besides, God sees each thing. Sunni and Shiite haven't any substantial huge difference of their beliefs and rituals.

For political power and clout. To be the big cheese in the new government of Iraq and position when the U.S. pulls out. Of course the U.S. will probably never pull out like South Korea and Germany.

This is totally bullshit propaganda. There is no conflict between SHIA and SUNNI Muslims in Iraq. They are both united against the BIT*H ASSHOLE (usa).

USA is killing innocent people (including 1 month babies, women, old people, and innocent citizens) and in media propaganda he tell his people that fighting is between the shai and sunni.

USA is a true BIT*H ASSHOLE.

They have despised each other since time immemorial. One sect claims to be the direct descendant of Mohammed while the other sect claims to be direct descendant of one of Mohammed's kin.

They hate each other.
