I just permed my hair recently. I asked the hairdresser, she told me just wash per normal will do, and apply milky jel to shape... but i think my hair looks quite out of bed sometimes, what are the things i should look out for? Is it true that i should not comb it at all?

OK, I have curly hair and I LOVE IT! I got mine done about a year ago and I am do for a "touch-up" to get the new growth done. But ok, to your question. matrix Biolage Hydrating shampoo and conditioning balm works AMAZING!!! It is worth the money! Do not settle for the Suave alternative as it does not even come close! Then for the gel I use Matrix spiriling curling spray gel (#3) mist that one your hair when it is damp and then scrunch. Once it is dry you can feather it out more to adjust the volume to your liking. Remember when you are scrunching to push the roots of your hair up. This will make the perm last longer as the weight of your hair will not be pulling on it. And yes, do not brush your hair! Use a pick!! Their really cheap and any kind will do great! Enjoy your new hair!!

in response to your additional comment, I usually just go to Great Clips for my supplies. They sell the shampoo and conditioning balm together for abour $25 and the spray gel is $13. You cant find them at like Target or Walmart, but some Walgreens/CVS has them.

Wal-mart supercenters have a big selection of hair care products.
Yes it is true that you should not comb or brush permed hair, it puts to much stress on the hair.
You need a wide tooth comb that you can keep in the shower. Shampoo and condition, while conditioner is on hair comb-thru starting at the ends working your way up, rinse. While the hair is wet use a pick or your fingers to remove tangles and to style. If you do not want the wet look instead of gel try using a small amount of conditioner and let dry, try it ,not everyones hair works with this. Use a diffuser when using a hairdryer, if you do not have one, try placing a knee-hi stocking over the end of your hairdryer. Not as good as a diffuser, but better than no protection.
If you don't shampoo each morning here is a perk up tip, using a spray bottle filled with water mist your hair and use fingers to style and detangle. You can also add 1/4 tsp. of conditioner to water for moisturizing purposes, shake bottle before each use to make use cond. is mixed well with water.

I had a perm two years ago which took more than a year to grow out, by that time I was fed up of it so be prepared for those moments when you wish you hadn't done it. I lost so much hair and its a lot thinner now.

I found John Frieda products the best. You can use their shampoo for curly hair, or any brand of shampoo especially for dry/permed hair, then apply John Frieda frizz easy, and use a wide tooth plastic comb - dont use a brush, you will snag your hair and wont be able to get the tangles out. After that while the hair is wet, apply John Frieda curl gel or mousse and leave to dry naturally or use a diffuser.

At least twice a week use an intensive moisturiser to maintain the hair's moisture. When you feel fed up of the curls, you could also straighten your hair. If you want to colour it go to a professional.

You don't have to wash your hair everyday. You could just wet it with John Frieda curl revival spray to get your curls back in shape.

Good luck.

Some of these answers drive me crazy. First get a big tooth come to comb after washing hair. Then apply product a gelee would be great. Dry either natural or with a diffuser. If you still feel like it is frizzy or out of control get a molding creme and rub in palms and apply to ends. Condition for sure at least every other day.

1st thing you do is get this cream it's called perfect for perms, it helps Matain your permed hair, also try to stick with the same brand of shampoo and condition. Try keeping your hair up also by getting wash and sets every 2 weeks, but make sure you have a steady stylist b/c if you go to different ones they tend to put different products in your hair and that can cause hair damage. tie your hair up every time you go to sleep with a silk material scarf. Try not to put Gel, mouse, or spritz in your hair because it breaks it off, It's better to use olive hair spray or jam with extra hold. you can comb your hair, but you cant comb as you would normally do. Reason for being is b/c it would pull your hair out and the texture of you hair is differ from normal.

i agree with Lindy..some of these answers drive me crazy as well. get a professional shampoo and conditioner line for chemically treated hair one of my fave is clear moisture by redken. do not use a comb or brush, but you still need to comb your hair but only use a pick or a wide tooth come. gels often times work best for perms but if you have fine hair a mouse will do. if you are still having a problem with frizz you can try a shine serum, to help lay the cuticle down, farouks repair and shine is good. if these do not help you may need to restore some moisture or protein from the chemical damage a perm can cause. best to go see your stylist for this, depending on what is causing your frizz. best advise go talk to your stylist again. good luck. perms are often considered maintenance free, common misconception.

u should definitely get the "wet-look" gel with extra strength.n don't forget to use a treatment cream before u apply the gel.get sebastian's potion 9 (the treatment cream) and wet look liquid gel.they're good.wash ur hair daily as u don't want the hair products u apply to ur hair daily to stay in ur hair way too long n risk of the potential harmful effects they may bring to ur hair.n plz DON'T COMB UR HAIR.if u have to,after applying the treatment cream, use a wide-tooth comb to get rid of the remaining tangles in ur hair.but the best way is to style it with ur own fingers.rake gently through your wet hair to get rid of the tangles instead of using a comb.then apply the wet-look gel and lightly pull your hair outwards, bouncing them a lil each time you're doing so.this is to give some volume to your hair.okay, that's about it i suppose.i permed my hair too and those are the exact things that i do daily and it turns out just great.even my friends noticed the great change.so have fun looking gorgeus n good luck! ;-)

idont't know who your hairdresser is but she gave the wrong info.you do not treat permed hair like it's normal hair.you need a gentle shampoo and conditioner and shampoo less often.use a gel that will help keep curls longer.if you blow-dry your hair use a diffuser on low setting.you can purchase an inexpensive one at your local discount store.

Don't use a brush, use a pick. Put mousse in it after you wash and towel dry it. Never use a comb or brush. Only use a pick on permed hair.

I just got my hair permed too. I've been using a curl enhancing mousse while my hair's damp, then try drying w/ a diffuser. Sometimes I add extra curls with a curling iron, b/c my hair is naturally straight and fine, and it doesn't always hold the curls well either.
