would i wear tuxedo (afternoon dinner) or business suit. i am a distant cousin/friend?????

For men, Black Tie means a tuxedo. Black Tie optional would be more flexible and give men the option of not having to wear a tuxedo, but if the invitation says black tie, go with the tuxedo.

Black Tie means Tuxedo.

You can get away with wearing a black suit, if you have a vest and matching tie underneath!

If your not sure call and ask. Normally if the invite states that it is black tie then it will be very formal.

for black tie one can always wear a dark suit if formalware is not available

Wear a tux or you will look like a clod.

If you wear a suit, even a dark one, you will be hopelessly under dressed.

Either one works the suit just has to be dark and you may need a vest or to dress it up a bit.
