I can assure you that anyone who is a true Christian has questioned their faith many times throughout their life, especially during the times they considered to be rough on them. I've no idea where folks from other religions and atheists get the notion that we were brainwashed to believe and never bothered to look our life over and question our beliefs. Most of us do so on a somewhat regular basis, but at the end of the day we determine that God is simply testing our faith in him, as it plainly shows he will do from time to time in the bible.

I thought I'd post this to let those out there, who constantly make threads claiming we blindly follow our religion without ever questioning our beliefs, know little about the inner working of the religious persons mind.

Frankly I've always thought that a person who claimed that they never questioned their faith either really wasn't as faithful as they claimed, or they were a liar. Everyone questions their beliefs. Everyone. And it seems the more involved you are in it, the more you'll question it especially during crappy times. The Gods know I've done so.
But the people who say you "blindly" follow your religion are more than likely insecure themselves and are constantly questioning. They want to be able to feel superior. It's sad really. It does show that they either really don't understand or that they are very sad people.

I know plenty of Christians who consistently question their faith and consider multiple viewpoints with relative objectivity (as true objectivity is essentially impossible). I wish there were more people like that in all religious or non-religious groups. I also know plenty who have not made any real effort to test themselves or their beliefs, or only test them against a false understanding of some other theological viewpoint. It is the latter group that usually ends up leaving a bad impression among non-believers. That said, I've also met plenty of atheists like this too, and it ticks me off just as much :)

You are 100% percent correct. A Christian who does not question his/her faith is not a Christian at all.
Unfortunately many non-believers get pre-conceived ideas about us, and let themselves be brainwashed by anything that makes us look bad and them look good. I believe that it is THEY that need to open their eyes, not us.
God bless!
PS: In response to the first comment, you are wrong. Many Christians, including me, read through the ENTIRE Bible. I am more than halfway done, plus I have read different parts of books I have not read yet. Reading through the Bible has only strengthened my faith.

You are so right. There is a time when we all have questioned ourselves about our salvation. The devil will try and throw that up to you. Especially, if you do something wrong. You hear him say, your not saved, look at what you done. The Bible says we can know we are saved. We are not perfect. We are going to make mistakes, that"s when we must ask God to forgive us, and live our life pleasing to Him.

I would think everyone questioned their faith. It's when a Christian, or anyone of another religion, makes it sound as if you are committing the unforiveable sin if you question.

I am not sure why, When things get hard I choose to believe God is allowing it so I can have a revelation or because I have disobeyed him and brought it upon myself not that God punishes I think his protection is like an umbrella when we are disobediant we choose to step from under it, They dont know because they choose not to believe, I guess

God is an everyday reality.
"This only One and very Self is omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent. This also every Christian acknowledges from his doctrine and every gentile from his religion. In consequence, wherever he is, a man thinks that God is there and that he prays to God at hand; thinking and praying so, men cannot but think that God is everywhere, that is, omnipresent [in all places at all times]; likewise omniscient [all knowing] and omnipotent [all powerful]. Everyone praying to God, therefore, implores Him from the heart to lead him because He can lead him; thus he acknowledges the divine omnipresence, omniscience and omnipotence, doing so in turning his face to the Lord; thereupon the truth flows in from the Lord" (Divine Providence n. 157).

I assume that you never questionned your faith in any rigorous way.
Most have never read the entire bible, only select parts.

God bless you for your words. He gave us a beautiful gift when he gave us the free will to believe or not. Believing is just so much sweeter.
