Extinction is when no members of a species exist.
Threatened species experience a sudden, dramatic decline in numbers.
Endangered, which is more severe than threatened, is when a species has been reduced to a very small number.

Extinction = no more. gone. whatever wsa around, died, and there are no more after that one. Never to be seen again.

Threatened or Endangered = levels of warning that the number of animals of a species (or plants, whatever) are getting low. I believe there are specific numbers for each category, but I don't know what they are. Humans usually step in at this point to preserve some males and females in captivity, hoping to get them to breed and make more babies to release to the wild.

Extinction means the species of plant or animal has died off and you will never see them alive on this planet again.
Endangered means that particular plant or animal is still on this planet, but there is not enough of them to make it for years to come meaning they could die out soon as a species of living plant or animal unless man comes in and helps them out by placing them if they are animals in breeding programs.

extinct is gone for good, no coming back.
endangered is death's door, going to take lots of effort to bring them back and lots of luck
threatened is dwindling numbers but can come back on their own if small measures are taken.
