If that's the case, then why aren't there a bunch of unemployed gringos lined up in front of Home Depot looking for work?

To answer your question, the answer is no. All first generation immigrants won't begin a work career as a CEO. Since my fam didn't come over on the Mayflower, I'm sure they were performing entry level jobs upon their migration to the U.S. Hispanics come for the same reasons our families did, for opportunities that are not available in their home country. They are here to send money so their families won't starve. Yes, in time the remainder of the family unit will migrate here to be together.
Migrant Hispanics who are seen in front of a home improvement store are there to earn an honest living for their work. If a person born here is competing at the same store to clear your brush or dig a ditch for your swimming pool, it is their fault for not taking advantage of the opportunity they were given by simply being born in this country. All competition regardless of the level of society it happens will only make us better.

Ever tried as a white or black American to be hired at a day labor center?

Well some friends of mine did as an experiment. They offered to work for whatever the Mexican day laborers were working for and to work in pairs as the Mexicans were. They couldn't get hired.

Why? Because the contractors knew that the Americans couldn't be taken advantage of due to the lack of a language barrier. They knew that they couldn't work the Americans all day long and then screw them in the end. They would go to law enforcement. Who would the Mexican laborers go to? Immigration? Not hardly. No, our unemployed workers are the ones who eventually end up pushing a shopping cart around downtown Los Angeles because they can't get a job and they don't speak enough Spanish to qualify for welfare.

By the way, gringo is a very offensive, racist term. You should watch how you throw it around. It could get you reported.

I don't know where you, the questioner, or most of the people answering this question are from, but I think if you are from a state with a high population of illegal immigrants, then you are way more likely to think that illegal immigrants are just 'doing the jobs that Americans won't do'.

Come to a state with a low population of illegal immigrants and see who is working in the fields, doing the construction work and working in hotels and restaurants and you will find mostly white and black Americans doing these jobs. It is very obvious that there are still Americans willing to do these jobs when the going wage for their work is not being undercut by illegal immigrants.

It just ticks me off to no end to hear people say that illegals are doing the jobs that Americans won't do. It also ticks me off that you think Americans should even be lined up at Home Depot to get a job that pays slave wages under the table.

Most of them are doing jobs that Americans wouldn't do such as picking crops - but if they're here illegally, they have no business doing it. Even the homeless people in this country who are able to work won't take those jobs - they think they deserve $10 an hour when they should be glad for whatever they can get.
So, if the Mexicans are here legally, they can work wherever they can find a job - if they're here illegally, they should be rounded up and taken back across the border.

The thing about all this is is not whether they are taking jobs, money, land, food, shelter, whatever. The point is that our government is not doing anything to stop the flow. They'vve made it so hard to get in legally that the only choice anyone has is to come illegally. Then because we have no border controls (anywhere!) they just come walking or driving over. Are there illegals here who are lazy, worthless and criminal? Yes Are there illegals here who work hard, support their family, aid the economy by not taking handouts, and stay out of trouble? Yes. Someone (government) somewhere (Washington) needs to say enough is enough. Deport the criminals. Give residency to the ones whose only crime is crossing the border illegally. Seal the borders.

Because they are not my dear. If i lost my job in this cozy office, with A/C and a computer, I would not run to the fields to pick oranges. That's why. It's the amount the employers pay, and the type of work. Most Americans think they are above all that. Anything to survive right, well unemployment and welfare is better than a low paying job.

yes, they are taking the jobs that hard working American citizens don't want.................jobs that are back-breaking such as digging holes, roofers, gardening, cleaning, washing cars, washing dishes, unloading... etc............they do all the back-braking jobs for long hours and little pay....... i am sure a hard working American citizen wouldn't work for little pay....in a back-braking job.

now for the unemployed gingos as you put it......they are just lazy because they are here legally and still they don't look for good paying jobs; some they rather stand next to a freeway ramp holding a sign that says "I'll work for food" ...........right.......in reality who is going to stop and say " i got a job for you, at mean would you pick up a stranger that looks like a homeless??? would you have time to stop to chit chat with the man holding that sign........ of course not.....
-they are just lazy.... if they really wanted a job they will be at the home depot looking for work just as the mexican laborers so that way they wont say that immigrants are taking their jobs.

Do you think the only jobs illegals take are farm jobs? Farm work is seasonal. Farms hire workers for the planting and harvesting. There is a long history of farm workers coming from Mexico as migrant workers. They work the seasons and then they return home. How many illegals working now are doing just seasonal work and then return home when the season is over? ........ None, would be the correct answer. I wonder if you would be so supportive of the illegals if your job was given to one.

no mexican workers are not taking jobs away from americans, they are doing the jobs that most americans dont want to do now, since we have become somewhat lazy, the problem is if there were no hispanic workers in the fields, who would do it then, most americans dont want to work that hard, just stupidity on our part

No they do the work we don't want to do. As sad as it sounds it's true. The real burden they present is on social programs, such as welfare, social security, medicaid, medicare, and schip. Instead of making fun of other races maybe you should research what burden illegal immigrants really put on our government and inevitably on the tax payers.

Harris county provided over $170 million in medical care last year to illegal immigrants through social programs. These illegal immigrants do not pay taxes so they were allowed to enjoy something hard working American citizens such as you and I pay for.
