An avatar is the little picture on the left that always shows up next to someone's name in a message board. If you look to the left right now, you will see my name is luxuriousdee and my avatar is the guy with a cowboy hat. you have not chosen an avatar for this site, so you have have a grey and white smiley face.

It's the picture you see next to some people's name here. Do a search of avatar and it will turn up a lot of places you can create one if you are so inclined.

An avatar is an embodiment or representation, so the little picture in Yahoo Messenger should be an avatar of you. I suppose most people created images similar to themselves.

you can pick from all kinds of skin tones, hairstyles, clothes, backgrounds and extras.
can be fun. They are always too skinny though.
have fun with it if you wanna kill a few minutes.
