Awww, my heart just breaks for you. My standard poodle had 11 pups on the 31st of July. One was stillborn and very tiny (the cord was twisted around very tight and no nutrients could pass to the pup), and 2 more of the pups were 3-4 ounces smaller than the rest. We lost the little black girl in the first 26 hours. I cried my eyes out for hours because we fought so hard to get her breathing when she was born and then struggled for the next day to keep her alive and nothing we did worked. I know there was probably a congenital deformity that we were unaware of, but it still hurt. Then, even tho hubby and I were taking turns getting up to check on the pups, Momma dog still managed to roll over on and kill the other runt of the litter. We do have 8 beautiful pups that are healthy and thriving, but it still sucked that 3 lil ones had to pass away like that. What made it even worse was that my boys, 12 & 11, helped with the whelping and stimulating the pups after they were born. They bawled along with me as I was trying to keep the lil girl alive. Best of luck with the rest of the pups and enjoy them before they go off to their new forever homes.

First of all, sorry for the loss of that one special pup you really wanted, but depending on the breed of the dog, 11 puppies could be too many for the mother to care for, and even if she was a larger dog, sometimes mother dogs know there is something wrong with a certain pup and will not care for it. I had this happen with a Doberman that had 13 pups and she kept pushing one away from the rest, and even dropped it in a bucket of water. I took it from her and bottle fed this pup which seemed to be doing fine, but when first shots were due, the vet told me that pup had fluid on the brain and the mother knew that it would not survive no matter how much I wanted it too, thus she knew it was hopeless for this pup when I didn't know there was a problem that would eventually end it's life anyway. Sometimes the momma knows best. Again, my deepest sympathies on your loss.

So a total of three died? That is so sad. I hope the others turn out okay. My cat had 4 kittens a few months ago. I, too, became very fond of the runt. I think taking care of 4 babies is a lot easier than 11, but she was a first-time mother. She was very good, but sometimes I had to help her make sure he was clean. This wasn't a problem because the cat loves me and trusts me with her babies as long as she can see them too...
Well it has been a while and they all turned out just fine.
The only advice I can give you is try to make sure that the smaller ones can get in to eat often enough. Hopefully your dog trusts you enough to do this.
Good luck with the rest of them!

Of course you're upset. Now concentrate on helping your dog take care of her remaining pups. Put her on a good vitamin if she's not on one already. Was she wormed before having pups? If not, keep a close eye on the puppies and call a vet if they look like they're in trouble - weak, lethargic, not nursing properly.
You might want to consider supplementing the puppies too. I'd be concerned that 3 have already died.

I am sorry the puppies died, but 11 puppies is a very big litter and it's a strain on the mother dog to feed that many without you providing some supplementation. You need to watch her and the puppies closely. The mother can experience seizures from calcium depletion.
Sometimes puppies die shortly after birth due to congenital abnormalities, but sometimes puppies can have a bacterial infection and they will slowly die, one after another. You should take the mother and the puppies to a vet for an exam.

Sorry to hear about that especially the little one called titch. It will hurt for a while and the best thing to do is talk to your friends about it.
Good luck with your pups.

You really need to take your female dog to the vet and make sure she is producing enough milk. You need to be weighing your puppies daily to make sure they are gaining weight to prevent fading puppy. You may have to get some supplemental puppy formula and bottle feed these puppies to keep them all from dying. Go to your local vet or any Tractor supply, farm service, etc and get some stuff called 'Just Born' - good Luck

Sorry to hear about the pup...these things happen and unfortunately to the smallest. I believe that they go to doggy heaven and are taken care of over there so try not to be too sad.

there will be another litter.
the puppy u wanted was probably the runt of the litter. maybe it just wasn't meant to be right now.
remember: everything happens for a reason in life. things we understand & don't understand.
next time.
i'd be so upset too, trust me. but i've learned to take life as it comes. this is something out of everyone's control. things happen & nature takes it's course right?
you'll be fine, god will see u thru this.

:( Sorry about the puppies. Anybody would feel that way about them. Well, anybody that loves animals. Think on the bright side though. You still have 8 puppies!!! That's quite an accomplishment for your dog!
