UCLA area is ok - not too expensive, but you'd have way more fun at the beach - try Hermosa Beach or Redondo....or and you NEED to have a car here, convenient public transportation is non-existent

Which school? USC/UCLA/UCI/CAL STATE Need more info. It's expensive no matter where but which school would be helpful.....
