Music is a direct avenue to the human soul.
For this reason everything about music is disputed in the spiritual realm and made a subject of confusion.
Music was a big part in the rise of the German Third Reich and the demonic work of Adolph Hitler. Right or wrong it stirs people.
In the case of many modern groups, their music is the religious "word" of the lost and they make no apology for it. They make use of religious and demonic symbols, painting, makeup, rituals and standards ( which are anything from a guitar itself to banners and other types of spirit signs).
The most subtle demonic attacks are found in religious groups. It is the aim of evil to expand the control of music on the world scene; to introduce wordly music on the religious scene; and in every way supress anointed music on the Christian scene. (I hope you consider what I say in this paragraph because it is the basic answer to your question.)
The Bible allows for psalms, hymns and spiritual songs* but different churches will not allow one or more claiming falsely to follow the Word of God. Few people can tell you the difference between a psalm, a hymn and a spiritual song.
Some only allow singing, with no instruments. Others will not allow dancing before the Lord. Some who reject certain forms and instruments may be partly right; but partly don't always cut it.
I know of no sects that put lmitations on music. The churches who do are fairly large and fairly well known. In some respects they maintain a better separation from the world than other Christian groups.
I hope this gives you a little understanding of what is going on.

Some are extremists. They only listen to "secular" Music. But the Bible teaches without evil how will we know good? withou tdarkness there would be no light (at least knowledge wise). So how does someone brought up that way dicern the difference once they get older? Many of them turn to darker sides or are labled as freaks wfich is unfortunate just because they were forced to adhere to a certain way of life.
I am LDS and although we teach against listening to certain music they don't condem you for it. Some will but their a bit extreme in their own ways. I listened to Rock when I was younger and I don't think I am any worse or better than the next guy.
Some music (which I don't even call music) is terrible I think. Some of the acid rock or hard rap I just call Hate Music. All it does is put imiges in young listeners heads and even some who may just have "normal" issues with parents like not letting them stay out late will get ideas of how parents are evil in that they "hold them down" and shoud be taken from this earth to free their spirt or something like that.
It can make a small problem change into a huge issue just by the feeling it causes inside. Most of the White Supremacy groups listen to music like that. Why? Because it stirs up emotions and anger and that is what the leaders need as they convince them that all except Whites should die.
I got news for them...recent studies have PROVEN that the pigment that determines our skin COLOR is made up of only 3 distinct colors. They are red, yellow, and Black. EVERYONE has ALL 3 in their skin no matter what color you are! Everyone is WHITE to start off with. Its how these 3 colors come out and at what ratio that determines our color! So even WHITES have black in them.
So maybe we will luck out and this news will cause a mass suicide amongst all the hitler want-to-be's.

All denominations within the Christian faith have different beliefs about what God wants for us and what His rules for us are. The basic underlying factor is that we all believe in God and Jesus Christ. Everybody interprets the Bible differently. If 20 people read the same Bible passage, odds are that all 20 will have a different interpretation. All we can do is decide for ourselves what we think and feel as individuals, and align ourselves with the denomination that best fits that. Southern Baptists believe that dancing, or any alcoholic beverage is sinful. Many denominations serve wine in their services as well as their dinners. Some, such as the Church of Christ, sing, but have no musical accompaniment in their services, while others have full rock bands. I don't believe that any of those "Pickey little differences" will keep any of us out of Heaven, however.

Some sects do not believe in the use of musical instrumentation since they only see the quote about "raising our voices in a joyful sound unto the Lord". They forget all about the other Bible quotes which reference such use as dancing and instruments. It goes to show how the written word is used by man to sectionalize and discriminate by what each thinks the Bible says, yet they only can see what parts they can relate to because of their own prejudices.

Some of them are afraid that worldly type music could creep into their church so they overreact with their man made traditions. Some groups will only allow a piano or organ, no electric guitars or drums ect. Also some think that Lucifer was a worship leader in heaven before he fell and they want to avoid a lot of music. Based on Isaiah 14 some people interpret that the King of Babylon is Lucifer and the reference to stringed instruments is about him. Too bad some Christian groups are missing out on some great contemporary worship.

There are more ' fundamentalist' parts of the Christian church who don't like music or card playing or dancing, they fear it's the devil's work. They're the same people who ban books without reading them because some ' preacher' told them it was evil.
Even Pope Benedict has said no modern music should be played within the Roman Catholic services, only classical music. Real different from his predecessor isn't he?
However it's nothing new for some parts of Christianity not to like music , they intrepret the bible litterally or at least certain passages.

Very simple, they forgot (or ignored) 1 Cor 10:23-24.
All denominations began as sects, for example, Christianity was a sect of Judaism and Protestantism was a sect of Catholicism. You can see in Acts and the Epistles how Christianity moved aways from Jewish rituals and practices as it expanded its membership to non Jews, the Gentiles.
Within Protestantism, we see over four hundred denominations, each denomination began as a sect somewhere. The patterns seem to be the same: start with a denomination, people dissatisfied with something starts a sect, and the sect over time matures be become a distinct denomination.
As for your music question: Yes there is music (psalm means song with string instrument); however, certain people believing that song distracts from their goal to be with God form a sect and then a denomination. Obviously they forgot 1 Cor 10:23-24.
So sing with joy as did the angles:"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests." (I along with God loves joyful music!)

Neither do I (understand)? Who hates music... Name them please because I have no idea what you're talking about? Do you mean the Jehova's witnesses or the Scientologists? Well... honestly...
nuff said there... Who cares?
and if you mean Christians who hate secular music... Well, All music came from Lucifer. God does not remove, he only creates. Some music can be attributed to the habits and practices of the world and some to christianity born of the spirit of God.
Personally... I am intelligent to realize fully what influences I accept and deny into my psyche so either way. It is all good!
I think christians are weak and judgemental in that sense... I threw away HUNDREDS of record albums as a teenager because my first husband was a christian and said that it was "Wordly music." I shudder to think what they are worth today... because back then, I was stupid and listened.
I had a White Album AUTOGRAPHED BY FOUR BEATLES for Christ's sake... Now THAT... Is a sin!

the reason is "religion". Do you recall the phairisee vs the humble man? The one had a true heart for God; a genuine revernce for God, where the other man had only an outward demonstration which was really prideful. In essence the no singing, no dancing, no card playing (gambling) is RELIGION, - not FAITH.
Such people are under the mistaken belief that God doesnt want us to be happy, to experience His joy or anything... they believe that by 'denying' their joy pleases God, makes them holier and more pleasing to God. But nothing could be further than the truth. God inhabits the praises of His people, He takes GREAT pleasure in our adoration and as you already stated, the Word has a great many examples of spontaneous singing to Him. He created us to Praise Him, that's why He created music, gave us voices to use in worship... when we sing, he inhabits us, and fills us with His peace and refills our spirits...
He is the source, He loves to hear His children worshipping... it is the devil who wants to rob us of that peace that comes through our worship, it is the enemy who has deceived those who are proud of the fact they dont give in to the "flesh" by dancing or singing in the Spirit. Yes, THEY are missing out!

Some think of dancing and playing instruments as an Old Testament form of worship and prefer to sing a capella as they think the first century Christians did.
Others play instruments but don't dance because secular dancing has led to sexual sins, and they want to avoid the appearance of evil.
