My husband insists on handling what he says is "his" money since he works and I am a SAHM. I have finally had enough of asking him for money to buy things like groceries or school supplies then getting ugly words thrown at me. He handles money poorly so we are deeply in debt and he will not budget or plan. It's impossible for me to do things under his "rules". So I give up. He can do all the shopping for everything. I tried to manage our money for 2 years and he stayed angry with me when I would tell him in a store that we could not afford to buy this or that. I had to plan carefully all of our purchaces. Anyway I give up. Just wondering how others handle these things.

I think you have bigger problems than who's going to do the shopping. I wonder how much longer you can stay in a relationship with a man who doesn't trust you, has a spending problem, and has a problem with sharing himself and his money. Just because you're a stay at home mother doesn't mean your work doesn't have value. How happy can your child or children be when their parents aren't happy and are fighting all the time? Better for you to be happy and a single mom than miserable in an unhappy household.

We shop together. The money he earns pays all the bills, food, necessities, vacations etc. What I earn is mine to do with what I see fit. My husband never begrudges me anything. even though I have a very good paying job he still gives me money to just spend on wants, not needs.
