Yes they should be allowed to unless you're going to wipe them with a baby wipe every time they use the litter box. Cats could care less about being discreet. They just want to be clean.

To a cat, they are just trying to be clean. They do not have the puritan attitudes that adult humans do, and expecting them to clean themselves in private would be like expecting a young baby to change it's own diaper and clean itself up. They are animals and don't understand the difference and are acting completely normally--for a cat anyway...LOL

its a natural instinct, you can tell them to stop all you want, its not going to work, i actually had a cat that was trained to only do that in the bathroom, so maybe each time your cat licks itself set it in the bathroom

Absolutely! That's how they bathe and keep good hygiene. If it bothers you, then cover your eyes or go to another room. There's nothing dirty or pornographic about cats licking themselves.

yes, cause that is the only way of them cleaning them selves. it doesn't matter if it is in front of you or not, they are going to do it cause they can't take baths like human can.
