What's happening to my cat?

I have a 4 months old male cat and he has never been very lovey. He always did his own thing. But now all of the sudden he's following me everywhere and he's constantly purring and rubbing his body on my leg or my face and sticks his butt in my face. And he smells very weird. Are those the first signs that he's starting to get "hot"? He's not neutered yet. Our vet said we have time till he's 5 months old.

He's starting to sexually mature. He is showing you in his very unique way that he is ready for some attention, and not the kind you can supply. What you are smelling are the hormones that he is emitting that would attract a female cat. To a queen (female cat) he would smell good.
Make the appointment to get him fixed before the behavior gets worse. He will soon start to spray everything in site to mark his territory, he'll try to get out every chance he gets to look for a mate, he could start to have potty issues (not using the litter box), and behavior problems can develop due to the tom instincts.
Any behavior that developes before the surgery may not stop after. Even though he doesn't have the equipment anymore, he'll still have learned the behavior. Then you'll have the problem on your hands to un-teach whatever he learned.

that "smell" is his spray, he's starting to attract a female by letting a urine like smell out, get him fixed now, he's old enough

He must have an excess of testosterone...yes those are horny signs...naughty lil boy...take him in to be neutered asap.

It's his pheromones...he's now ready to be sexually active. Get him in to be neutured ASAP. If he sprays, he may continue to do so even after being sterilized.
