I am from Singapore .I am wondering if i should buy a Nikon D50 online through a store. For example, from America and ask them to ship it over. Or should i buy it from my local store? Because i heard that buying online from overseas like America is cheaper. Which will be a better choice?

funny you should ask.. we here in the USA say the same thing about buying from Singapore??

if price is all that matters, then buy online. go to a local store and touch the item you want. then try to get it cheaper online. don't buy anything from a New York camra shops with an unbieveable price. they are not going to sell you a camera at that price. they are rip off artists. i have delt with several and they all suck. if they are reputable then they are not any cheaper than anyone else.

if you buy from e-bay make sure they ship to you, and that they have good feedback. if you are buying from a major store like (best-buys, circuit city, compusa or outpost.com) then you will get what you pay for, but you will pay more for what you get.

the only problem with buying overseas is, you can not go to the store and yell at someone when or if things go wrong. and the warranty will not be good. so you have to get the item fixed at your own expense.

i have purchased lots of camera gear from e-bay with little or no trouble, but i am in the US.

good luck

I have found that online stores carry significantly lower prices than retail stores. However, that is here in the USA. I have no idea what people in Singapore pay as a retail markup on consumer goods (or sales taxes for that matter). Probably, what you should do is shop around. Check the prices in local stores and then compare the best online prices. A good starting point is:

Use google to find a website that converts US dollars into local currency. In the end, it might not be worth the hassle.

It's just a matter of what you feel more comfortable with. You could save a few dollars from buying on line. But with your local store you always have the leisure of walking that return back into the store.

I prefer a local REPUTABLE store as we might be able to get help if there is some problem with the product. But you should ask them if you can come back to them if there is problem with the camera.
