Who is the best realistic painter particularly portraits and nudes? Can you provide any web pointers?

While he is not a contemporary artist, Michelangelo Buonarotti is the foremost painter of nudes and the human anatomy. His studies on musculature remain fresh and new today, as when he first painted in the Rensaisance. Look at the details in the Sistine Chapel, or the Last Judgement, or David, or the Bound Slave and you are seeing muscles and limbs in a way few artist before or since have dared to master.

It depends how much you're willing to spend, but there are some phenomenal living realistic portrait artists. I consider Mattelson to be a fine portrait painter.

I like Jenny Saville.
If you are looking for *photorealistic* anything, you might do well to browse the The Art Renewal Center, www.artrenewal.org. This website is large but rather reactionary-- ie it doesn't consider anything abstract to be art, or even stuff like Picasso's cubism or Paul Klee.
