Is the Nikon D50 phasing out? With the new Nikon D80, it seems to be replacing the Nikon D70s. So is Nikon D50 phasing out? Should i wait until it phases out before buying the new model that replaces it?

It's true that the D70s is being replaced by the D80, but look at the prices - you can get a D70s for $700 now and the D80 will cost $1000. You do pay for the upgrade.
To my knowledge, there are no plans to replace the D50 any time soon. Then again, all I know is what I read in the message boards. One thing I do know for sure, is that the D50 will be massively outdated in 3 years time. And so will my new D200. And so will every other current camera...
If you want to play the waiting game, put off your purchase until the end of September for Photokina, the next big industry trade show. If any new models are planned, they'll probably be announced there.

I doubt the D50 model will be replaced any time soon. At this time, it fits perfectly in the DSLR model line-up for Nikon.

Unless you know for sure a new, better model is coming out very soon, it's best to get the current model. You can put off buying a current model of something, knowing the next model will be better but because of the way technology is today, you'll always be waiting for the next model.
