In Firefox, there is an option to set file types to programs so that instead of saving a file, you can Open it from it's current location. However, I'm unable to do this with .exe files. My only option with them is to save them to disk and then run them.

Where would I change it so that I can open .exe files from their location instead of saving them first.

Well ......this is only one answers for ur case :
1. Firefox is a web broswing software so there is no chance to handle EXE files .....and this is just coze all EXE/COM files are computers executables ( there are used to start a program / game in ur computer ) . They can be asociated with a Programing Software like C++ Assembler and other like those.
If you wanna know more.....
Feel free to contact me on yahoo messenger for more details.

Not a very safe thing to do. If you could do and I'm not sure it would put you at risk on a malicious web site. Let's say I'm Joe Hacker and I put up a web site that claims to have photos of your favorite starlet but the link to the picture is an .exe file that if run installs a nasty virus on your comp... no fun if it happens automatically...

With what program would you like to open exe files?
With a debugger? or a disassembler?
Even then they still need to be on your computer.
exe files cannot be a streaming file like video MP3 flash ect.
In cannot run/play while loading, on execution it has to be in your memory, its jumping from one location to another depending on interactions and many things, its not a sequential file.

you could no longer open the report... i think its a protection characteristic of firefox from immediately commencing a contaminated exe report so as which you probably could have an determination or probability to test it including your anti-virus.

well .exe files are executable files- they can't be opened with any application(that's why it doesn't give you any choices to select)
and in order to run them you need to download it(save it on you pc)
