I just had big bouncing balls, trucks, boxes and other things he could not hurt himself with. When we were outside i put out a wading pool and threw ducks in there. he also really loved it when i would blow bubbles with help from the fan (i just put the bubble wand in front of it and it would blow TONS of bubbles.

I also really like Baby Einstein. When he was little he wouldnt watch it, but the songs the learned just by listening to them. Great background noise!

Get some walking toys or miniture shopping cart and show them how to fill it with toys or whatever. Kids love to do that!

When the child lays down- take a nap! You will need it for the next round of busy when they get up!

Gross motor activity is the most important for a growing child. Encourage lots of physical activity, climbing, walking and conquering every bit of furniture in the house while supervised. This will lead to a good awareness of his own body which will promote coordination and perceptual skills. Great skills to have a foundation in before entering school. Have fun!! I love all the given answers!

Go for walks! They are so curious about everything, toys won't make much difference. We started putting my son out into the yard and letting him roam around. He decided the sand pit was the perfect spot. Don't be afraid of letting your child get dirty, there is always the bathtub. Show him/her different things. It all may go into the mouth, so avoid small parts or easily breakable toys, of course. Boxes, pots, pans. They are all about checking things out. But if you want a real activity, just go for a walk! And let them check things out along the way. If you really need a break, try a cartoon, Seseme Street is very entertaining for them. Try one of the learning videos.
Best of luck!

My son is almost 16 months and he's very active. I am in the process of teaching him to play soccer and cricket, which he enjoys and it's alot of fun. I sometimes take him to the beach or the park and let him play for a while. I know it's very exhausting but the exerciseand the fresh air is good for both you and the child.

Open the cabinet where the pots and pans are located. Go to the park. Go to a friend's house who owns a large puppy or small child. Go hiking in the park. 1 year olds aren't too terribly picky about what they're doing as long as they're doing -something-.

1 year olds are learning different textures and for some reason they love getting messy and water. I would say let her play in some shaving cream on a linoleum floor and let her play in the bathtub w/ some toys like its a baby pool. They will have a blast. Also, any toys with lots of music, big buttons, and bright lights. It catches their eye!

My daughter is 1. She starts from the time she gets up!! In the morning I turn on cartoons. She sits on her baby couch and eats her breakfest and watches them. As long as the cartoon has music and singing in it. After she's does she gets up roaming about. She likes books. They keep her attention for a while. She also likes blocks. I hide her baby and have her find it. I play with my daughter alot because I haven't anything else to do. When I'm not playing with her, she has so many toys she intertanes herself. She has a learning table she likes real well. When we go outside, she likes to chance a bouncy ball. She likes to swing, and slide. At this age it's hard to passify them. I just got lucky. My nieces are both wild. Nothing intertanes them for long. Good luck!

Try writing the alphabet with black marker on white flash cards show them to your little one. Mine surprised me at two at a stop sign when she said look mommy S T O P Stop. You would be surprised how much attention they show when you try to teach them things. Let them rip a newspaper apart. This developes the brain somehow then make a paper mache pig with them (mix flour and water to form a paste ) My daughter loved it. . Yes it is messy but fun. She also loved when I fell down with her playing All around the corner like a teddy bear husha husha we all fall down. pretend you are kangaroo's and jump all around the rooms. Teach ball throwing and catching. Make a cake and let your little one stir, again messy but what great memories you will have. Take a picture of everything you do for later years. Read a story then act like one of the characters.. Have Fun let us know how it goes
