The easiest way to tell if your dog is pregnant is to feel her stomach. put one hand on each side of her and squeeze, but not too hard (you might hurt her). If her stomach feels rock hard, then she's probably pregnant. A dog's pregnancy is approximately 64 days, so that gives you a time scale. Also, if she's pregnant, she will start to get restless arount 35 days, looking for a nest. When she is ready to give birth, her temperature will drop. Normal temp for a dog is about 101 degrees. My mom always took our female's temp with an anal thermometer. I do recommend that you take the dog to the vet. That way he can tell you for sure, and do an xray to see how many pups are in there if she is pregnant. Good luck. It is hard work having puppies.
P.S.- her milk glands won't start to swell until halfway into the second month (about 40 days) if she's pregnant. But it's hard to use that as a sign. And she will start to lose the hair on her stomach area....that is a sign.

if you'd had her spayed, you wouldn't be in this situation. you need to take her to a vet immediately, if she is pregnant there's a lot you need to buy and learn to prepare. Birthing dogs isn't easy, especially for some breeds and don't let anyone con you into thinking it doesn't cost money. You have to pay for special food for the mother, food for the puppies, vaccinations and wormings, a whelping box (with pig rails), extra blankets and towels, toys a puppy pen for when they get bigger...you have to think about docking their tails and cropping ears (for some breeds)...vet visits for mom to be sure she's doing okay throughout her pregnancy.
Be responsible next time and get her spayed.

Well, if you were dumb enough to not spay your dog, and she got out of your sight for even a minute while she was in heat, there's a pretty good chance she's pregnant.
You can take her to get spayed now even if she is pregnant.
