I have an idea to open a pregnancy center...At this center we will offer lamase, specialized exercise classes for moms, we will sell pre-natal vitamins, help books, possibly sell baby clothes, and maternity clothes...basically be an all inclusive place for expectant mothers.

What do you think?

This would be better than going through the community education for Lamase and to the YMCA for Exercise classes...these would be offered every day and at different times through out the week...This would give ease of schedule and if the mom isn't feeling well she can do a make up class easily!

i think that is a great idea! when i was pregnant with my son over 2 years ago, i had a hard time finding maternity clothes, help books, and cute baby clothes. basically i had to go all over the city to find what i wanted--definitely not something you want to do when you are pregnant!
i like your idea though. it would be great to see it follow through. you should also have a salon that specializes in all natural organic bath and hair care products for pregnant women, and an organic restaurant. :-)

I probably wouldn't go, no. Not that it's not a great idea, but prenatal vitams at CVS or Eckerd would probably be cheaper than the ones your center would sell, and work equally well. Also, the classes would probably be more expensive. I imagine they have equally qualified people teaching lamaze, etc. at the local Y, and at a fraction of the cost.

The only benefit I see that your center would have over doing these things the usual way is that a) it would probably be a more comfortable/better decorated atmosphere; and b) you can kill two birds with one stone (buying vitamins and taking classes in one location, as opposed to driving all the way across town to the hospital or YMCA, then back to the pharmacy to get the vitamins).

I think it is a great idea. You could also have baby and me classes. Just for babies up to 6month or a year. Or social time for expectant mothers, with talks from a local doctor, or other mothers. Special classes and support groups for those who are having twins, triplets and such.
I like the idea of making it all inclusive, so you may want to see if there is a doctor who wants to have an office with you, or a nurse that can work there. Women always have questions, especially if it is their first, and I am sure would like to have a place to ask all they want and not feel like a bother.

I think that is an awesome idea. Pregnant women I have noticed have a rather limited avenue for escape from the norm. I'm nearing the end of my 2nd pregnancy, and finding any one place to be able to get any sort of help is such a pain. Maternity clothes are huge pain in the butt. But the classes for lamaze, or even breast-feeding are great.

Hope it works out for you.

I would be there all the time. I think it is just a perfect idea and we need alot of more places like for mom's and maybe you can also pregnancy testing also but I really think it is a great idea to open that pregnancy center. It will help out alot of mom and give a chance for new mom to meet. I think it is great good luck.

I've thought of doing something similar.

I'd suggest that you look into various methods of childbirth classes and not just limit it to lamaze. I'd also suggest that you consider having a Lactation Consultant on staff or offer some kind of breastfeeding class or support group. The last idea I'd suggest would be some kind of parenting support group or parenting classes as well.

Good luck!

I would love to someday run a Mothers' Center or Parents' Center, where we would offer parenting classes, play groups and parents' support groups, a co-operative babysitting list, breastfeeding support, and references other resources such as food banks and domestic violence shelters.

I would like to sponsor discussion groups between older and younger mothers, single and married, teen and adult.

Periodically I would like to offer seminars on financial planning and negotiating with your employer (for solutions like working 3/4 time, job sharing or freelancing to spend time with the kids).

There would always be an open door to a playroom with comfortable chairs and tea and coffee, and maybe a toy and video lending library.

i think that it is a great idea but i think that it would also be a good idea to include moms in general not just expectant ones because as everyone who has had a baby knows it is not easy to loose the fat after having a child

It may or may not work.

I can take childbirth clases at my local hospital or even my OB's office Plus lamaze is included in these classes.

Exercise classes you can usually go to the local hospital for sources or go to the local YMCA

prenatals are cheaper OTC at Walmart or Target

Books you can get at Babies R Us

Baby clothes are not cheap, wuld you have boutique pricing or more wholesale type pricing

There are numerous maternity clothing stores already (Babies R us and more) You would have to carry a variety of sizes in order to interest all sized women
