Lets break it down. Cory Spinks held the lineal welterweight title and bested Zab Judah in a fight that came down to the wire. Judah stopped Spinks in the rematch in February of 2005. Spinks had been talking prior to the rematch that he was having difficulty making the 147-lb limit around the time he fought and beat veteran Miguel Angel Gonzalez a few months prior.

Since the knockout loss, Spinks took off 17-months and moved up to the jr. middleweight division where he targeted the #1 guy in Roman Karmazin. Karmazin held the top spot in the division after Champion Winky Wright went to middleweight and Karmazin bested #1 contender Kassim Ouma. Spinks went on to beat Karmazin and worked through a year plus of ring rust against the divisions best fighter. Karmazin is a solid puncher, who dropped Ouma in their fight, but Spinks wasn't dropped and barely looked hurt in their bout. Exausted from rounds eight on? Yeah. But in danger of being stopped or out on his feet from a quality puncher? No.

Now on to Floyd Mayweather Jr., a man that was deemed to small for jr. welterweight last year before he fought Arturo Gatti. Since the knockout over Gatti, Mayweather jumped 7-lbs north to the welterweight division and fought and beat both Zab Judah and Sharmba Mitchell. In that time, Mayweather, who has been targeting Oscar De la Hoya since 2003, has not looked all that impressive in my humble opinion. Now he did get off to a slow start with Judah, before pouring the heat on late and he did knockout Mitchell, but in those fights, I believe he got hit with a higher frequency than in fights past and he didn't seem as quick at the higher weight.

Mayweather has his eyes set on De la Hoya and IF he can beat Spinks, an IBF/WBC unification with De la Hoya at 154 would be THE fight in the whole sport.

The question remains, at what weight will Mayweather become mortal? I feel he shouldn't go past 147 right now, and at 154, I feel a lot lesser fighters than a talented Spinks are threats to him.

Spinks has the talent, skill, speed and akwardness to give any fighter trouble, especially Mayweather, who is jumping up another 7-lbs. Spinks can make this ugly and can win. Mayweather has heart, skill and dedication, as we know what he brings to any fight. Spinks has a tendency to run out of steam late, but much like Judah, I expect 100% from Spinks as he gives everything he's got in preparing for his biggest fight to date.

I dont think is a shoe-in that Mayweather stops anyone at 154 or 147. Judah had a glass chin, but was stopped by Mayweather. Spinks at a higher weight looked excellent, considering he fought the top guy after such a long break and Mayweather, although winning at 147, hasn't looked amazing. So, I believe this is a far closer fight than people want to let on.

This is a safe fight for Floyd. IT seems the Spinks Jinx only works when the Spinks fighters are the challenger to the championship and as Cory Spinx already beat Roman Karmazin (with a little help from a referee who broke the fighters prematurally throughout the fight not allowing Karamazin to fight inside) So according to history he will end up losing. He won when challenging Ricardo Mayorga (again by 2 point reductions by a referee that if added to the score cards would have gave Mayorga the win.) And then lost to Judah in a rematch though I think Cory might beat Zab if they fought a third time. Also in history Leon Spinks came out of nowhere to beat the one many believe to be the "greatest" Muhammed Ali but in the rematch lost.

But superstition aside I believe Spinks will unanimously win the "Best Ring Entrance" award as he extends more energy dancing to the ring than fighting but once the bell rings it will be all Maywether and YES u will see your knockout!!! Spinks has a good defense but it will break down in the fourth and before the end of the 8th I think he will be TKO'd if not KO'd.

Jane ~
Cory couldn't even beat Zab, who was totally out-gunned and classed by Mayweather, although I don not not particularly care for Floyd or his family (I once sparred with his uncle Roger) he is one of the best out there right now at his weight right up there with him would be Antonio Margarito. I have no idea why they are even trying to market and make this fight between the two of them they couldn't sellout a small gym in Boise, Idaho. Floyd's personality is his downfall and Spinks although talented, boring, very boring.

Spinks wont get knocked out. He could even win the fight. I don't see that happening, but it will go to a decision. Mayweather Jr. will win unanimous. But I want to see a Floyd Mayweather vs. Shane Mosley fight, because Shane Mosley will end the win streak of Floyd. I would even bet on it. Shane is back.

Mayweather only fights against fighters he knows he could beat. Spinks is done he old and not in his prime anymore.

mayweather will end up raising his hands again and proving that he's still the no. 1 pound for pound fighter in the business! but i think that the $8 million fight against margarito is far better than this one ...
