If I send a text message from my house here in L.A. to New York, will it get to New York?

Yes, text messages can go anywhere. You are not sending the message directly to their phone, but are sending the information to your cell phone provider, who then sends it to their provider, who them sends it to their phone. The only real question would be is your cell phone able to call their phone. If your providers wont allow that, then you wont be able to send the text, if it will then most likely, unless there is a problem with the two providers connecting while sending messages.

You pay your cell phone bill, don't ya? Texting will work as long as you have service- there might be some problems if you are sending the message from a little local provider for your area, but there should be no problem if you are on a national provider.
