you know scientist bult the atom smasher back in the 80's in texas. A 50 mile bilateral side double horseshoed apporatis. They traveled the atom around at 186000 miles per second speed of light. Hitting it precisely on a microscopic type wedge. They wanted to split the atom apart and it was big news back then. They wanted to name every fragmented particle that flew off of it.
But when they suceeded and smashed the atom the weirdest thing happened. The particles flew as far as they could, but then immediatelly began to rush back to the center to reform the atom. I think you now can answer your own question.

When you die you sleep in the grave until resurrection day when Jesus returns - 1 Thessalonians 4, Daniel 12:2, etc.

We just do not exist before our existence, what is the purpose of that? No where in the Bible is this stated, what can be found however, is that God told humans to be fruitful and multiply and thus each baby is born and eventually develops a character and that makes them a person.

The wages of sin is death. But God, who alone is immortal, will grant eternal life to His redeemed. Until that day death is an unconscious state for all people. When Christ, who is our life, appears, the resurrected righteous and the living righteous will be glorified and caught up to meet their Lord. The second resurrection, the resurrection of the unrighteous, will take place a thousand years later. (Rom. 6:23; 1 Tim. 6:15, 16; Eccl. 9:5, 6; Ps. 146:3, 4; John 11:11-14; Col. 3:4; 1 Cor. 15:51-54; 1 Thess. 4:13-17; John 5:28, 29; Rev. 20:1-10.)

First you need to realize that scientifically speaking, there is nothing called soul that "enters" a fetus and "goes out" when one dies. When you refer to something as living, you are referring to a process, a physico-chemical process. It cannot "exist" by itself. For example, "digestion" refers to a process it cannot exist apart from our digestive system.
Man has a natural fear of death. It is a necessary self-preservation instinct. Primitive man made up stories about death and those stories have become more colourful during the years. There were other mysteries that primitive man came across like birth, lightning and thunder, He made up more stories.
If you have had a decent course in biology, birth should not be a mystery to you.

After death your body decomposes and returns to the ground

Before our birth you were just a blob of DNA in your mother & father's body. One day the DNA was exhanged and cell division began. Cell division contined, tissues differentiated, and body organs were formed. The fetus developed and was born. Even at birth though the brain is still not totally developed, so what makes you "you" hadn't quite finished appearing.

Well, the bible says "Before you were born, I knew you in your mothers womb" so we are where God planned us to be. After death, even the bible is somewhat unclear and quiet on it. It does mention a resurrection in a perfect body. It does mention several different kinds of judgements- some where God judges nations, some where God judges people, and where Christ is the personal intercessor for those who believe in him. Then aparently after these judgements the Dead are raised, they're judged, then some will be sent to Hell, some sent to Heaven.

The bible has not laid out a clear cut path, but it is mentioned and written about several times on what it shall be

Contemplate the spork, Spam (the meat in a can version, not unwanted e-mail), and figure out why the platypus was put together in that manner.

Then, and only then, will you be ready to contemplate fruitcake and fruit or shaved carrots in molded jello, as well answer the question "Who let the dogs out?"

Once you have contemplated these things (along with your navel), you shall know truth in the Universe, young grasshopper.

This needs to be perfectly tuned certain spiritual level for answer relating to re-birth or reincarnation based on the belief you follow.
Spiritually or materialistically, the existence of cosmic energy within your system of life upon death can't be denied. In that sense, the very same light of life departed from your body of five elements has to be in any other form of life. Unless the memory on such situations are proved beyond conflict, rebirth or otherwise can't be ascertained rationally.

In Christianity there in no reincarnation. Before you were born, you were just an egg in your mother's womb. God knew that you were going to be born before anyone else did. When you die, you either go to Heaven or Hell. It's called the Judgement Seat of Christ. God is the one who makes the decision. He see how you lived your life on Earth and what you did with Jesus Christ (did you make the Lord of your life?) If not then you will end up in Hell. But if you lived the best life possible with Jesus being your Lord and Savior then you will go to Heaven.

Before our conception we did not exist. After death, we will be conscious of nothing--basically, cease to exist, except in God's memory. When and if he wishes he can re-create us exactly as we were but without the sin inherited from Adam.
