Depends on what you are doing. I've used Kodak, Canon and Sony cameras though I bought Kodak. Both that I've owned were easy to use, reliable, survived being dropped, inexpensive. My only gripe is that the USB cable for a Kodak is propriatory. Lose it and you have to buy a replacement from Kodak. That is just plain insane! Other than that I've been happy with Kodaks.
I got good results from Sony as well. Did not like the Canon. It was not as easy to use, gave me lower pic quality and used more battery power.

I have a Kodak EasyShare Z730 that fits your spec. I am happy with. It produces brilliant digital pics and is easy to use though one criticism is it is quite bulky. There are plenty of choices out there but like everything else It's courses for horses. It what fits your purpose.
Go into one of the big stores like Comet and look at the various types of cameras before deciding. But I would recommend either Kodak or Sony as both are good products that do the job and at a price that is affordable.

You can get a digital camera of Sony, Canon, Kodak or Nikon with 5 to 7-8 MP hopefully for the amount of money you have mentoned as camera prices are different in different parts of the country. It is mainly imported from China etc.
I bought my Sony DSC600 in India. which has 6 MP.

I have a Canon Ixus that was a hand-me down from one of my gadget-loving brothers who researched the whole market very very thoroughly before buying it. The only reason he changed it was to get something smaller for travelling. It takes absolutely brilliant photos that look good on screen and printed. They were selling on E-bay second hand at about £250 about 6 months ago.
Also I don't know how many pixels it has but the camera on my W810 Sony Ericsson mobile phone is brill for snap-shots and has loads of memory too. It was £50 as an upgrade. Both also have video capability. P.S. I haven't had an answer voted as best yet ;-)

Nowadays, the only 2 companies that stand out a lot more in the digital photography world are Canon and Nikon. Sure Kodak, Sony, Minolta and Pentax can come up with really great products, but nothing compares to the Canon or Nikon series.
I suggest going to www.dpreview.com and browsing around those great site's reviews.

My contribution to this, in my view, is that Sony, Fuji, Nikon or Samsung are the best choice. It depends on what make or mP capacity (>5mP) you are looking for. Also, ones with Pict-Bridge facility are quite useful for printing off photos without upsetting your computer. I own a Samsung camera, 8mP, and get good results from it, with the printer bought in the package.
Best to compare specs on online stores like MSN Shopping or Yahoo's Kelkoo, prices are a bit cheaper too.

sony is a good company, cannon has some great camera's that feature vibration reduction, And Nikon's coolpix line is great also. I am not a huge kodak fan. I personally shoot a Nikon D200 and D2x DSLR so I am partial to Nikon, but the other 2 are great also

I have a Panasonic DMCLZ5. It's available for around 160 pounds. (Dixons online - 158.64).
It's a 6 mega pixel camera with 6x Optical zoom, movie mode with 30 frames per second and is about the only camera in this price range with Mega Optical Image Stabilizer.
