This question is for just the sake of argument, so don't get offended. Let's say mankind proves God doesn't exist. Do you think that will help mankind or destroy hope for the world? I'm just curious, to what might happen. Where would people turn to look for hope? Will there be peace in the world once and for all or will that create panic and a doomsday for us all?

Well - since god does exist this discussion is kind of moot, right?

Good thing we can't prove he's not there I believe that humanity would crumble. Every bit of value that we as humans have come from religion. It's wrong to kill, steal, fight, lie, disrespect,be gay, have sex before marriage...... the list go's on and on. And even though these are things that we do a lot we feel guilty about them. What would happen if all guilt was gone?? I don't think that their will be much panic but there would be chaos. To most it would be living with NO consequences. But the believers would never stop believing just because a mere man told them that God wasn't there, because faith like love is blind.

It would destroy hope for many individuals, but I think that eventually, mankind would benefit from the discovery.

Also, I doubt it's possible to "prove" it to everyone. Even when faced with hard scientific proof, there will be people who say "He's just testing our faith". Like those people who really believe God put dinosaur bones in the ground to test our faith. There will always be believers.

People would learn to find their own reasons for doing things, and learn to appreciate the precious short time we have here for what it is. If God is your only reason for living, you're going to miss out on so many wonderful experiences. If you are only preparing for the afterlife, then you are missing out on all this life has to offer-- and will be rudely surprised in the end.

It's like asking to prove our parents didn't exist. Is that going to happen?

I don't believe god is a being but I believe god is the entirety, the creation, the process and everything in it. So I think god is always there. The coining of the concept of god is a very ingenious idea. In the ancient days, considering the level of human understanding, god was probably a word to define the entirety but instead make it an animate symbolism. However, human evolution stuck with its original meaning and now we have people thinking god is an animate being, which i personally have problem accepting it.

thanks. it is extremely between the most biblicall and smart statement I have study to confront Atheists.. The Holy Bible is authentic and that is the inspired note of God. I strongly believe in God. i think that he Created the total Universe. i'd upload that Evolution and massive bang idea is the biggest fraud in human heritage. Many scientists are waking as a lot because the truth that those human theories might want to many holes. they don't seem good in any respect. believe God immediately and continuously. As I understand the concept, God is a belief based idea. It has nothing to do with proof. If it were subject to scientific proof it would not be a belief system and and would be susceptible to examination. Since it remains a concept which cannot be proved or disproved it is solely in the mind of the believer. One must question the rationale for using the concept of god for hope and peace. Even though the one god concept is accepted by all major sects, each one seems to have the BELIEF that their god gives them special permission to inflict incredible cruelty and horrors in its name. One must question if their is any hope or peace in the god concept. At least Zeus did not pretend to be peaceful and benevolent.

I posed a similar question to the Christians yesterday: what would it take to convince you that the bible was not true. The answer should come as no surprise -- since they'd already made up their minds that the bible was true, NOTHING would convince them otherwise. So probably, the world would go on pretty much as it has for centuries -- no matter how conclusive the proof, no matter how overwhelming the evidence, the devout will refuse to let logic or reason penetrate their little cocoon of deliberate ignorance....

I suspect it would create a panic initially. Lots of anarchy, violence, killing. Most Christians, Jews, and Muslims would go on free for alls until of course governments were able to contain the situation. After about a decade of confusion, however, the survivors will be able to pick up, rebuild, and move on to a new age of peace and happiness!

I don't believe that there is a god.
I get along just fine.
I'm a good person all on my own.
I think people will be more free thinking and creative.
Being brainwashed into 'believing' is an impediment to free thinking.
